If John Maine is going to win 20 games this year, he’s going to have to do better than this.
It’s his first start so he’ll get some slack. Maine gave up three runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings (45) with two strikeouts, a walk and a wild pitch.
But that’s Maine’s whole M.O. isn’t it?
Unable to focus for long when it doesn’t matter… the more pressure, the more he focuses and hence the longer he goes before a weird bad inning?
Dude has all the tools except for the ability to stay focused for seven straight innings unless it is a playoff-type situation.
Which is more than good enough for the #4 man in your rotation, definitely, but if he wants to be more than that… yeah.
Could it honestly be some kind of medical problem, ameliorated by ADD or ADHD drugs?
I’m not being flip, I’m genuinely asking here… modern medicine ain’t a bad thing, lots of really good and talented people out there in all kinds of field have legitimate medical issues with focus.
You are confusing Maine for Ollie.
it is the first outing of ST. I would not read anything into it, good or bad.
“it is the first outing of ST. I would not read anything into it, good or bad.”
I second this.
JD any word on why Sanchez didn’t go today?
Anyone have any clue why Duaner didn’t pitch today?
Yeah, I might get antsy if his last start is lousy. But other than that, as long as he is healthy I could care less about how Maine performs in spring training.
I’m not worried about Maine, if he has a start like this one 2 or 3 more times than your worried.
It was his start and his first time facing real live competition.
ignore Mike C., he is an internet troll who knows absolutely nothing about baseball
I beleive so called “metsfan” that Mike C’s knowledge of baseball surpassing yours, and he’s a heck of lot more entertaining than you ever will be.
