Phillies closer Brad Lidge will undergo surgery tomorrow to repair the meniscus in his right knee and is expected to miss three to six weeks. Tom Gordon is expected to be the early-season closer instead of Brett Myers.
Lidge caught a spike in the mound on his first pitch of batting practice and injured the same knee he had cut on last October.
“It was my push off leg,” Lidge said. “I caught my spike in the mound. I threw the pitch but it felt like I pulled something in the knee. … It swelled up a little, but I’m optimistic that I just pulled some scar tissue loose.”
Lidge, 31, has 123 career saves. Trading for him as the closer enabled them to make Myers a starter again.

Don’t know the extent of the injury, but mensical tears don’t always heal quickly. Surprised it is only expected to be 3-6 weeks. It could be longer.
