Mets Chat

A very quiet day. The games start tomorrow with an intra-squad game and Michigan on Tuesday. Then Mike Pelfrey, John Maine and Johan Santana going Wednesday through Friday against Detroit and the Cardinals.
The first few things I’ll be looking at are Duaner Sanchez, Orlando Hernandez and Carlos Delgado. Those are significant issues to me.
What are your early concerns?

I want to see if Duaner Sanchez is still as dominant as I recall.
Is the scrimmage televised?

That is kind of a scary thought, although Pedro technically isn’t, but I see your point.
Alou’s health.
How well Schneider does behind the plate and if he can the worsening-each-month-team-era we had last year. I think a catcher’s defense is something you really have to see each day to evaluate.
I agree Dan. I feel like a lot of Mets fans have been spoiled by Carter, Hundley, Piazza, and ‘06 LoDuca. For the majority of backstops, their first priority is defense, and as a catcher in my youth, I’m looking forward to watching a defensive catcher on a daily basis.
However, I do believe last year’s steady decline in team ERA had a lot to do with Maine and Perez throwing a lot of innings for the first time last season. I would expect them to be able to manage the season better the second time around. Also, replacing Glavine with Johan should help some.
JD – I think you nailed it. Everything else is peripheral.
mymets have no backup plan at 1b delgados career has been in serious decline for the last 2 seasons.he is 6for52 with 2 outs runners in scoring position.pLEASE I CAN NOT GO THROUGH ANOTHER SEASON WATCHING HIM GROUND OUT TO SECOND BASE OR STRIKE OUT ON 3 PITCHES!!!HE IS BELOW AVERAGE DEFENSIVELY AND HE IS SLOW AFOOT.ALL THESE QUALITIES ADD UP TO SHOW CARLOS THAT HE IS THE WORST FIRST BASEMAN IN BASEBALL AND IT IS TIME TO SAY NO MAS PLEASE!!!
