It appears more than ever than Orlando Hernandez will the fifth starting pitcher and that he will be left behind for “extended spring training” in early April. Due to the number of off days early in the year, only four starters are required. Look for the Mets to carry an extra reliever or an extra bench player as ElDuque and possibly Mike Pelfrey use the extra time to settle who is the fifthe starter.
