Heh, well, maybe an hour or two.

You've only known my stance on the whole Milledge trade, but I look at things objectively or at least I like to think I do.

Jeff Weaver and Kyle Lohse have no teams because they suck. Seriously, I would rather take a chance on one of my minor leaguers than give him or someone like Carlos Silva all that cash.

And this OP thing cuts both ways. The METS created a lot of ill will over $1M with Ollie... for a team with this payroll to take a hard stance over $1M is silly.

I love statements like these: "Perez stands to make anywhere from 40 to 60 million next year so Boras got his client a little extra this year and made negotiations with the Mets next year more difficult."

Baseball is a business people. Sure, good relationships help, but the Mets aren't going to turn up their noses to a player who would help the team because of his agent. The fact is, the Mets have a good relationship with Boras (Beltran, Pelfrey, etc.) They know this is just the nature of the beast.

I think you guys need to get your Boras story straight. You all keep saying he's bad because all he wants is the biggest contract yet TOMG says clearly that he tried to get Beltran a smaller contract from the Yankees. Well, which is the story? Biggest, not biggest. And while citing the cases of guys who might have made out better look at guys like JD DREW a mediocrity if ewver there was one, yet he makes out like a bandito for him. And while complaining about OP becoming a Free Agent don't show so much pleasure over Texeira becoming a Free agent with Boras running his show.
Bottom line is that no player has to have Boras as his agent, and because Boras does it his way doesn't make him a cheat or a bad guy. It makes him a risk taker, and risks means big gains or big losses. Teams and players know his means. There ain't no secrets with Boras' modus operandi.

Yes, pity poor poor AROD.. He's oh so broke. I wish I could lose like he did. As far as Perez, instead of lloking at AROD look at Waing(?) a 19 game winner 2 years ina row and he loses in arbitration because his agent obviously sucks. Is Ryan Howard's agent bad for all but himself because Howard got 10 million. Did he cause ill will in Philly? You guys are in fantasy land. Its a business, and if Boras rules OP that's on OP. OP is the boss and its up to him to change agents or tell his agent what to do if he's unhappy. But, how do any of us know the guy likes it in New York? Maybe he wants another environment. We don't know but we can act like horrible things are going down becuae OP went to arbitration. Maybe a million bucks is small change to you very rich folks but to me its big change. Good for OP and good for him no matter what he does next off season.

How about Kyle Lohse. Still has no team.

Maybe OP will somehow get in touch w/Arod and realize staying here even if it is for slightly less money (b/c of maybe 1 or 2 yrs less on a contract) will be best.

But I'm thinking he is going to end up somewhere like a KC and be asked to be #1. Not sure if he is up to it.

Jeff Weaver is probably a better example of a Boras client

The problem is not with Perez it is with Boras.
Yes he got Perez 2 million more than what the Mets offered
and I am sure the Mets did try to compromise and meet Boras in the middle with an offer of 5.5 million before
arbitration.
Say this was the case and the Mets offered Perez 5.5 to stay out of arbitration this means Boras created a lot of ill will in future Perez negotiations for 1 million dollars.

Perez stands to make anywhere from 40 to 60 million next year so Boras got his client a little extra this year and made negotiations with the Mets next year more difficult.
Many times Boras does things that are not good for his clients long term interests.
Just look at A-Rod.

OMAR PADILLA,
"tomg: I guess if you were a ball player you would want your agent to get you a worse contract than other agents would have gotten for you!!! If the “ahole” agent is so bad why did the Mets sign Beltran who has the same “ahole” agent."
Go ask A-rod and sheffield what they think about Boras!!!
The guy is out for himself, he will find the most money and years for Perez and it will be in a bad situation with a bad team and I don't want to hear about beltran because Boras went back to the Yankees and was willing to take less but the yankees weren't interested in Beltran.

OMAR PADILLA and Dave,
I'm not knocking Perez here, more power to him to go on the free agent market and get the most money and years he can get. I'm just saying that IMO I don't see the Mets getting involved
in a bidding war for Perez. I don't think the Mets are comfortable with a long term deal for Perez because he is to up and down and I think the Mets feel he won't be worth the years and the money he will get in the FA market.

dave: you have it so right about the free agent market. This hostility to OP that has built up in the last week is really sad. All the guy did was get the best contract he could. So now he is a bad guy or something with a lot of these fans.

y would they not play the game. the agent is doing what he feels is in the best interest of his client. there is no reason for ollie to give the mets a discount. if they feel it is in their best interest they will trade him in a new york minute.

so we have to bid. so what. he is a valuable commodity and we will have to pay the going rate. we should still keep him. what is the alternative? plug vargas in at 5?

It's not that the mets don't want Perez, it's that a-hole agent Boras. Boras wants perez to become a free agent so teams can bid and Boras can get the highest bidder. I don't see the Mets management playing this game so this will be perez's last year, IMO.

Why would they let him leave? That makes no sense. Who will you get to replace him? If you say a garbage pitcher they should never have signed Johan.

Sloppy, nice to agree with you on something, haha.

I love Ollie. He is one of my favorite players on the team. I know he had a rough outing against Florida down the stretch, but for the most part he rises to the occasion. I love his makeup, I love his stuff, and I love watching him pitch.

I've said this before. Modell's carried every Yankee jersey under the sun. I want a Perez 46 jersey... even if it becomes dated in one year's time.

I think you have gotten this one exactly right Keith. I don't think the Mets will sign him however. He broke the Wilpon rules by going to arbitration, and they will try to low ball him (home team discount is the politcally correct term) and let him leave.... But I hope I'm wrong. He's a spunky and lively guy.

This really is the best scenario IMO. OP deserved to win, however I think he needs a repeat performance to garner a long term deal. If he comes through, the Mets better sign him. Young, hard throwing left handers don't exactly grow on trees.

dave c, players have lost 5 of 7 cases this spring. Only OP and Ryan Howard have won this yr, so far.

Maybe this is for the best. OP gets 2MM more. It won't break Mets piggy-bank.

If OP does this yr what he did last yr, especially if he is a little more consistent, I'm sure he is going to get 13MM or so for 4-5 yrs. Hope Mets are the team that wins.

Do players EVER lose those?

I understand the Mets do everything possible to keep players from arbitration, but in this instance Boras is "hell bent" (to use a Clydeism) on getting Perez to the open market.
