It is not being headstrong to think you would have refound yourself in the big leagues. Part of being in the elite group of athletes is havng supreme self confidence in your abilities. Any major leaguer who doesn't think he can figure it out and excel isn't a major leaguer for long.

And why is it so bad for the guy to want to make whatever he can???? This hometown discount for a team that will have 4 million go thru the turnatyle and has its own TV network and is getting a new ball park doesn't need a hometown discount.

Yup, and if anyone remembers, last year Ollie said, when asked, that he thought he'd be doing this well even if he was still on the Pirates. So he's obviously head strong, and even though he may like it here, he thinks it was him who put it together, and with Boras as your agent, its all about money. Nothing the Mets can really do in this situation.

I don't see this ending pretty. Boras wants to get OP the $$$ that the NYM will not pay, even if he has a great year. The team knows that the Jacket is the secret to OP's sucess and keeps him in check. Once he leaves he'll probably revert back to the wild thing. If I'm him I'd tell Boras to go eff himself, stay with the Mets for another 2-3 years for a market value contract, rack up some more wins, continue working with the Jacket, and then go to the open market for the really big $$$. Too bad it won't work out that way though.

Ravi, "Its a shame, because Ollie basically resurrected his career"

Correct. Just like Jeff Weaver when he went to the Cards and beat us up in 06, then goes to Seattle and stinks it up in 07.

Just hope OP doesn't follow same, but w/Boras I would not be surprised.

Its a shame, because Ollie basically resurrected his career (at least as much as you can as a young, hard throwing lefty) with this organization, and you'd think that there would be at least a little bit of loyalty...but no way does Boras let Opie settle for a discount.

JD, were you serious about the directions comment? I thought the player did not have to be at the arbitration?

I guess Boras is adamant about getting that last 1MM since I'm sure the Mets are willing to go half way and they are about 2MM apart.

I hope if OP does go to St Pete, he does not stop for any DR food, or would that be Mexican food.

Maybe OP needs some bling like Burgos and he has the same jeweler.
