More physicals today. Players in meetings. Practice delayed. A lot of the guys watched TV in the clubhouse. Some interesting reaction about Cuba and Fidel Castro’s resignation. None of it, unfortunately, from Orlando Hernandez, who said, “I don’t know what’s going on down there.”
Hernandez still has family in Cuba, and the Castro family regards him as a traitor.
Pedro Martinez said a free and democratic Cuba could mean an economic boom to Latin America and an influx of players to the United States. However, with Castro’s brother, Raul, in power since 2006, doubts anything would change.
“Isn’t it the same mentality,” wondered Martinez. “Nothing will change, I presume.”
