Mets in the Morning: On tap today

More physicals today. Players in meetings. Practice delayed. A lot of the guys watched TV in the clubhouse. Some interesting reaction about Cuba and Fidel Castro’s resignation. None of it, unfortunately, from Orlando Hernandez, who said, “I don’t know what’s going on down there.’’

Hernandez still has family in Cuba, and the Castro family regards him as a traitor.

Pedro Martinez said a free and democratic Cuba could mean an economic boom to Latin America and an influx of players to the United States. However, with Castro’s brother, Raul, in power since 2006, doubts anything would change.

“Isn’t it the same mentality,’’ wondered Martinez. “Nothing will change, I presume.’‘

Could a country whose economy has been decimated by a dictator with no legit commercial bone in his body be the springboard for a regional economic boom? Not unless all the expats go back and fight for what was theirs 50 years ago and disenfranchise those that were stuck there to reap the benefits.

Either way as Pedro says ‘same old same old’.
