I watched the hearings in Congress and McNamee came off to me as being very truthful and believable -- a thousand times more than Clemens. If anyone is sleazy, it's a rich famous ballplayer who thinks he can get off with anything if he throws enough bluster, arrogance, money and influence around.

I don't think Clemens' strategy will work, and I look forward to seeing him take the perp walk when he is trotted off to jail. I expect the DOJ will eventually bring an indictment and Clemens will be tried for perjury. What goes around comes around.

Given Pedro's injuries, his small frame and his age, I doubt any team will take a chance on him.

2/20 with a 1yr option would be my offer. I doubt any team would match it unless he has a great yr w/o any injury issues.

Just hope that it would not prevent team from signing OP who will likely command 5/65.

I watched part of the show in Congress McNamee is scum and Clemens is lying. Your friend and partner Petite has no reason to rat him out other than to not get perjured.

There may not be sufficient evidence to convict Clemens of anything unless they can get enuf circumstantial evidence to support at least one instance that agrees with those who say he did something.

Clemens is a cheat and liar but he did not beg out of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series. He threw something like 135 pitches in 7 innings. He had great stuff and the Mets did a great job of fouling pitches off to wear him out. Let's accuse him of stuff he actually did, like hide behind the DH to throw at Piazza's head and throw a bat at him.
As far as the comment about Clemens getting a pardon, that comes from McNamee's lawyer. It could happen..Clemens is tight with the family but I would consider the source as dubious. McNamee is getting exposed as a worse slime ball than Clemens. His lawyer will depict him as a little guy getting crushed by forces allied to the President. Bush has been pretty stingy with his pardons in his first seven years although it could change in his last.

I read what JD says about Pedro. He likes it here. If the Mets give him the same type of money they were giving Glavine he can have his money and retire with a good team. A nice win-win.

Clemens - read some comment somewhere where he is tight with the senior Bush and will get a pardon. If true he gets pardoned before a decision gets done and therefore remains eligible for the Hall because the apologists can say with a straight face he never got convicted and has the numbers.

John, what are the chances of the Mets resigning Ollie?

I know it is probably too early to tell but this is the one guy I would want to resign because of his upside and age.

You GO, Pedro!
As for Clemens, I hope the bastard gets indicted for perjury. The media suckups (not you of course, JD) are going on about what a tragedy it is that Clemens may be remembered for this more than anything else in his career.
I have these five memories:
1)His once saying he'd have knocked Henry Aaron down if he had faced him.
2)His begging out of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series because of a blister on his hand.
3)His beaning Mike Piazza in 2000 because Piazza owned him.
4)His throwing a bat shard at Piazza in the 2000 World Series and then later claiming he thought it was the ball.
5)Congressman Henry Waxman putting the jackas in his place by banging on his gavel in yesterday's hearing and essentially telling him to shut the %$#@ up!

To Metsfan and Scott from Pelham (RE: Pedro): Pedro does like it here and said he doesn't think it would be easy for him to sign on with another team. That he would say that tells me it has crossed his mind. You guys know it's always about the money and if somebody blows the Mets out of the water with an offer Martinez could go elsewhere.-JD

If Pedro is very good do not expect the Mets to get him on the cheap. No one ever thought he would leave Boston and the last place anyone thought he would end up is with the Mets. In the end it is a business and money is money.

I don't think Pedro would want to start over on another team, where expectations might be too high. We know Pedro, Pedro knows us. He'd be smart to stick around for a couple more years. Obviously we shouldn't insult him, we should give him a fair deal, but I think he'll stick around for a couple more years and retire a Met. He seems to enjoy it here.

Gump: I see Santana being the last big ticket pitcher the Mets throw money at. So I don't really see C.C. as an option. If Ollie has a real good year this year he's going to be looking at 12 to 13 mil per year easily. I think the Mets would sign him if that was the case. And look, if Pedro feels he owes the Mets something because he was basically injured for a year and a half on his contract, maybe he asks for a 2 year deal at 12/13 mil per year with an option on the 3rd. I would think the Mets could live with that.

Unless Petey returns to '04 form, why would he ask for more years/dollars than the Mets would give. I may be being naive, but again, barring a spectacular year, I feel Pedro will at least be fair to the Mets regarding a new deal. He hasn't exactly been his Cy Young self since signing, and this proud warrior likes to earn his dollars. Providing the Mets don't insult him, I can definitely see Petey retiring as a Metropolitan.

Steve - I agree with you. The only way the y keep Pedro is if Olly Perez walks and the Mets refuse to get into any bidding wars in the offseason (CC Sabathia et. al.).

I like the not so subtle swipe at Clemens. :-)

I heart Pedro! I hope he has a great year. Unfortunately I think the Mets will let him walk because he'll ask for too much money and too many years.
