I disagree davey.... I think its a you versus me attitude that doesn't generate a team atmosphere and sets the tone blame calling before the first pitch of Spring comes. Every slump now are we gonna hear Omar tell the world he did his job? I've yet to hear him take the blame for not finding a relief pitcher last Summer.

I think you can always say we can't win if..

But we have the pitching and the D. We have enough offense to be tough.

Considering we were questioning the attitude of the team last year for sleepwalking this is tough love from above putting the team on notice that 'you have to play the game to win' not just show up.

And yes his job is on the line...

Gump: I'm not worried about Reyes. As long as his head is on straight that is. If he is going to be lazy, not running out groundballs, doing stupid things like stealing 3rd with 2 out and David Wright up...then I'll be worried. :-) As far as Pedro, yes that is a big question too but I have a gut feeling that he will have a great year for the Mets in 2008. He's got alot to prove to himself and I think having Santana here will only make him better...better in the sense that he does not have to be the ace of the staff, while trying to prove that he CAN be the ace of the staff.

Steve,

You forgot a healthy Pedro and a recovery to pre-September levels for Reyes. The inspiration of the Giants makes me look at the glass as half-full and that we will get most of the performances we need. My New Year's resolution is to be an optimistic Mets fan this year. Who knows, maybe we'll have the MVP and the Cy Young winners in 2008.

Yes Omar did his job in getting the ace, but this team is still counting on alot. They are counting on a healthy Alou for close to the entire season w/o a real back up plan, a return to form for a healthy Duaner Sanchez, and a bounce back season for Delgado. If those things don't happen, it's still going to be tough. And you also hope for continued maturation by Maine and Perez. I'm not really sure how "complete" this team truly is.

maybe Minaya/Randolph and a whole host of other front office guys will look to the Meadowlands to try to figure out how to get a team to work together to win. To say something like I did my job now do yours is far from inspirational. Its more like I ain't getting fired if this team doesn't do it. I think it was a pathetically self centered arrogant line by Minaya. He certain;y doesn't set the "we" tone does he?

Fair enough. Omar did his job. Wilpon also did his job by agreeing to write the check. Time for the players to do their job. The Mets management has certainly but their money where their mouth is. It's time for the players to do their part.

Omar Minaya can be a charmer, but I think the team had better be ready for some tough talk this year. Willie has also said that there will be more discipline in the clubhouse. Sounds as sthough both of them mean business - let's hope the whole team is listening. Nobody wants another Unhappy Ending i.e. Sept. 2007.

Did he tell Tony Bernazard to stay out of Willie's way, out of the clubhouse?

That would be more important than making proclamations to the players.

Did he tell Tony Bernazzard not to spend 45 minutes talking to Manny Acta before Mets/Nats games? A simple "Hello, how's the family" is enough".

John,
You did mean that Minaya made the statement, not Santana, right?

He is right - it is up to them and Willie to get things done.
