Well, it looks like the Mets landed their ace. I didn’t think they had it in them. And, part of me still wonders if they might not have given up too much. I’d been on record as being against this because I didn’t want them to ravage their farm system.
That they are keeping Mike Pelfrey and Fernando Martinez is important and lessens my concern. They really aren’t giving up a “can’t miss,’’ guy, but then we might not know that for another five years or so.
In Pelfrey, they have a pitcher to plug in next year for Pedro Martinez or Orlando Hernandez, and Martinez might be ready to take over for Moises Alou.
