clm; if the twins want santana then there may indeed be miracles from above!! ps: never think of responses as animosity, just intensity to releive the true frustrations of life.

Now you're talking. This I agree with. I guess my big problem was the animous that you guys showed. But really, I am in agreement on philosophy. They need to use these kids to see what they have.

Pelfrey should have been given a chance for sure. If they hadn't given Darling and Fernandez a chance to shine who would have ever known what they could do.

I was dissappointed about Gotay as well. I really don't understand the moves that they have made. But as far as FA signings there was really no one out there.

They had Estrada and Castro so why trade Milledge. If they had him now they are winners of the Santana sweepstakes because they have options then.

I am intrigued by hearing that they may trade Church in the Santana deal. But I'll believe that if I see it.

clm: While we both agree that we would like to see kids given a chance it doesn't happen in Omarville. Milledge didn't get a chnce. Gotay was taken out of lineup despite hitting over 300 when given the chance, Pelfrey wasn't given the year or even half year he should have had and then was bounced around, Smith was sent down first bad slump, while vets were allowed to suck all year. So the patttern, if not changed, says the next wave will be screwed as well. So give them all up for Santana. If they don't sign Santana you know he'll sign an old junk heap for the rotation or a veteran mediocrity like Lohse.

So, to answer your question, I'll certainly take back the do nothing opinions I have of Omar but I'll still disagree with getting average players because they've been around the block at the expense of youth. Play em or get stars for em.

I don't know if I agree a hundred percent in the analysis of the teams desire to win.

However, I do agree with let the kids play and getting key players. I think it was a mistake to trade Milledge especially for the return on value they received. I would have much preferred to start the seasin with Millede, kept Estrada and seen how that played out.

I am not happy with the signings either. My question to you is - if they sign Santana is this forgiven?

I think it would be a now move and am concerned with the loss in the farm system. Still they have enough money to restock it if they play the Yankees' game instead of the commissioner's.

My honest opinion clm, is that in this day and age, with the money being so overwhelming for everyone, that neither the ownership, the front office, nor most of the players, see it as a big deal. Nobody loses anything except the fans, who lose their heart and soul that they give to the team every year. The money rolls in for all the rest, season ticket sales don't go down, there are no salary losses for any players, only a bonus here and there that won't have a chance to be met... I do think some players care a lot, but how many I think not a lot.

Altho options this winter weren't great, I think they could have done something. They could have offered too much for Hunter or Jones to try to get them to play a corner, there were top relievers on the market that we didn't hear any effort to get. If they didn't get any, at least they could have shown they were trying for the big shake up. And then they could/should have said, hey fans the vets let you down, now we're goping to give the kids the true chance to develop and by the end of 2008 we'll all know what we need to raise a flag in the new field. But instead, they make small moves that only impede the development of the youth and don't bring in the big ticket to improve the team or add excitement to the place.

Remember it was exciting seeing Jose and David develop and seeing big names come to Queens. Its not exciting seeing Church or Wise or maybe Livan, if the rumors are true. What happened to the team of a couple years ago. I tell you what happended. Omar did his job, the Wilpons have full stadium and everyone is happy.....

Do you think they really feel it was no big deal? Or do you think with the lack of options out there they must make us feel like it's no big deal because they no there is nothing they can do?

of course i'm a passionate met fan. since the first horrible game in april 1962, but nothing was as bad as the last month of last season, not the 120 losses, not the blowing of the 73 series when yogi mismanaged the rotation, not even that terrible playoff series against the dodgers in 88 or the terrible game 7 in 2006. but what was worse than the choke was the apparent attitude of the franchise that it was no big deal.

clm: This is entertainment. Sports arguments and debates have gone on and been passed down from genreration to generation. Too bad you don't understand that that is part of the enjoyment of the game. The more heated the debate the more passionate the fan. We don't take ourselves too seriously. We love the game and if everything were rose colored it would be boring. The winter is for arguing trades and talent, the summer is for arguing strategy.

Sloppy - Got one thing to say, guess you know who you are. And a threat? Are you kidding me? What? You need secret service protection now?

And of course I am very happy about the collapse. You guys take yourselves way too serious.

Take it easy and Happy New Year.

Guess what clm:

This is your quote that started this: Your quote pal:
"Lighten up and you know who you are. It’s baseball and you are supposed to enjoy it."

YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. That's not a lecture?????? Actually its almost a threat.

PS: I am very happy you enjoyed the last 2 years especially the great collapse. I'm sure most Met fans agree that the collapse was very enjoyable. NOT If you don't want to be lectured then don't lecture others......

Sloppy, Omar - I never said you had to feel any certain way. I feel that this is not life and death. I also feel that there is a certain bitterness on this blog that is really keeping others from enjoying it.

I am not a fool nor do I think everything is great in Mets land all I think is that at this time of year even Royals fans are optimistic. You guys act like this GM thing is easy and all the players are just there for the Mets pickings. I know you could all do better than Omar.

Well here's the thing for me - Since Omar and Willie took over I have enjoyed watching my team for roughly two years. Prior to that it was hard to do. Now, I'll blog where I want to, I'll say what I want to, and I won't be lectured by either of you or anyone else.

That is the problem here many feel they can tell others how their opinions are wrong while at the same time being SHOCKED! and put off by what others say. And let me ask this? When did I say everything is wonderful? When did I say don't have your opinions? When did I say you weren't realistic? All that I did say was have a little hope, that I was optimistic and that the east didn't look to me like anyone had really stepped up.

So again I say lighten up.

In the Mets starting line-up there will be... a no-hit defensive catcher, a right-fielder who can't hit lefties at all, the ghost of Carlos Delgado's career, the ghost of Luis Castillo's career and... well, Alou can still hit but he won't stay healthy for long.

Beltran Wright and Reyes can only do so much when they're constantly pitched around to get to that... mess of has-beens and never-weres.

At least Milledge and Estrada were in the very least solid complimentary bats and Gotay was on the track to that before he was benched for a man with one remaining leg.

The front-office strategy seems to boil down to:

"Hey, I heard of that guy when I was with the Expos/hey, this guy was an All-Star ten years ago."

Bah.

clm:
The team of Wright Reyes Pedro and Beltran, and a bunch over crippled old guys and a bunch of mediocre players we are told are great and so on.... the other teams don't have to get better. This is the team that played under five hundred ball for two thirds of the seasons, the last 100 plus games and it hasn't improved, and has a its hopes on injured players who missed major time being able to be there old selves.
It does take two to tango and make a trade but maybe Omar is the one afraid to tango lately!!!!!!
PS: I agree with Padilla: If you want eveeryone here to kiss and love minaya and the Coupons then go the ilovethewilponsandminaya.com and tell them all your love and how you love the great collap[se and you love the fact they don't think anythying about it. otherwise expect debate. This team better be ready for a lot of heat this year. Every little slump will bring questions of last year de ja vue and they haven't done anything to make anyone forget. If you like that then that's fine, but don't tell me what I'm supposed to like.

CLM: You can be as positive as you want and we can be as realistic as we want. This is what its about, so be what you want but don't tell others what they should or have to be. You're no better then anyone else. Your no better fan because you think everything is wonderful and you want to go to Disney World. But unlike you, I don't think you are a worse fan either because of your opinions. And I don't want you to change your opinion. I like to argue baseball. That's why its a slow game. We have all day and night every day to argue.

I don't know maybe I am an optimist. I look at this blog and everyone is down on the Mets. Can anyone tell me who in the east really has improved themselves?

I think that the article linked above is still pretty much on target. These kids have talent. They are very YOUNG and have a lot of maturing to do. I wish Milledge was still part of the mix. My personal opinion is that they should have kept Estrada or signed LoDuca and kept Milledge. That being said I defer to management until they are proven wrong.

But many here act as if this is the 2002 Mets, not the division leaders over the vast majority of the past two years. This is a good team. They are missing an ace, a backup first basemen and are fragile in some spots as well. But MOST teams are the same.

I feel good about management, the team as it sits now, and that it will be improved over the season. I don't think ownership has the same mentality of years past and believe they want to improve and will spend the money. But WHO, praytell, was available for them to get? The FAs are sparse and over priced and aside from Santana, who did you really want that was truly on the trading block?

It takes two to tango and there wasn't many just willing to rollover and trade an ace to the Mets. Lighten up and you know who you are. It's baseball and you are supposed to enjoy it. It's the offseason when everyone is supposed to believe their team has a chance. You guys act like we are getting ready to watch the 1962 Mets, not the Mets of Wright, Reyes, Beltran and PEDRO!!! C'mon!!!

We should probably bring Ms. Claus back.

That would push El Duque to the pen and give us more depth in the rotation. Don't know if he is over his injury but he seems at least as good as the other crap out there.
