Actually didn't Ernie Banks and Vern Stephens show that shortstop could be an offensive position? Or Honus Wagner?

The difference is if Mac's HR # were down significantly they'd he'd be very borderline at best. Bonds and Clemens essentially sealed their immortality before they left their first team.

Look, Clemens won 3 CY and a MVP for the Red Sox and Bonds won 3 strait MVP for the Pirates (And first year Giant) . those two alone will get you in the hall easily and they were clearly not juied back then. even without the juice Bonds was a top 5 all time hitter. with it he's best all time.. by a very large margin. (comparable OPS+ to the Babe but wins big time in steals and was a great glove until he got old)

Good for you on the steroids. Too many will say that they deserve to go in because of prior work. Once your tainted your tainted forever. Keep 'em out. It used to bother me know end that Clemens was getting more Cy Youngs than Seaver and others of that era. Now we all know why. And he can say what he wants about this, and I know innocent until proven guilty, but if I was accused and given a chance to clear my name and was innocent, you can bet your last ruble that I would be sitting in front of Mitchell telling him it aint me, babe.

Well enough of my rant. We all have shortcomings in life but many that lost out, on jobs, rings, whatever, did so because these guys cheated. That's where the real crime is.

Marchman's column is great.

He is a great read and has a very unique perspective
about baseball. I try to read his column everyday.

McGwire wasn't any more productive than a number of his contemporaries, steroids or not. I wasn't sold on his candidacy prior to the steroids controversy. I think Tim Marchman's column makes the point quite well.

Retire a number??? Numbers won't be retired until the new park is empty, and the Wilpons are desperate for a large crowd, so not until 2011 or so, then you'll see Keith, Carter, Koos etc unless Omar regains his guts and keeps the team competitive, then you'll have to wait for new ownership.

I know he is no longer on the ballot, but Jerry Kooseman deserves some consideration......

The Mets should at least retire his number......

Happy to see Trammell on the list. A great Shortstop who too many have already forgotten because he played his whole career
in Detroit.

JD, glad to see you didn't vote for steroids. Will you vote for Clemens or Bonds?

For Santana nuts like me........In a post to Seth Speaks, a Twins blog, Seth Stohs writes..“If the Mets would offer Carlos Gomez, Mike Pelfrey OR Philip Humber, Kevin Mulvey and one other prospect, I think that the Twins would have to consider it. If that prospect was Deolis Guerra, they would be silly to say no.”

I'll say it again....MUTS won't pull trigger b/c of the $ not the players ot be given up...
