Scoop,

I think you are right we could certainly be a 500 team all year round. I was just saying that at the beginning of the year Pedro, El Duque and Alou will be available to help power the team. As the old farts break down we will rely on the bench. This means the pen will get over used. Perhaps Maine/Ollie will repeat last year and do well in the first half and get killed in the second - again more pen time.

This is when we went into a tailspin in Sept. It doesn't mean we will be in first till the end. More like we will fail to be able to compete because of lack of SP.

Again this means we still have not signed a replacement for Glavine which as of the end of December 2007 means the HumPhrey man is our man in 2008.

With a lefty closer and a lefty 7th inning guy, why would they trade the only reliable righty set up man (Sanchez is an unknown with a year and a half on the shelf) for another lefty?.

Meyers a # 1??? No way. He has never showed consistency to earn that title. He improves their rotation but a # 1 he ain't. Nats improved offensively? Thel that to Keith. You got that one right.

Wise. what happened to him? He was fine set up man in 2005/6 and first 4 months of 2007. Then he collapsed. Maybe he was prepraing for a future with the Mets.
Well, he can't be worse than this Register guy. A Wilpon kind of guy. Comes cheap so the Wilpons don't lose any profit.

Braves are going to end up with Brian Fuentes... Phils will fill out their lineup with Victorino and Jayson Werth... I think that Brett Myers back in the rottion is going to be big for them, as they now have 2 number 1 type starters... Washington has improved offensively and we'll see how the new ballpark plays... Florida is terrible but they are dangerous as always...

Mets pickup Matt Wise from Brews (FA).

Anyone knw if this guy as some knid of arm trouble?

With so much need for arms, I was trying to figure out why he was available and the Mets got him for just one yr deal.

He is a decent pickup for the BP. And it is only a 1 yr deal.

Dave, why would you expect it to be at the end of the yr where Mets lose it?

Mets played .500 BB after June 1. I think the odds of playing .500 BB for this team are much greater than 90 wins. They could play .500 for the whole 08 season.

If the Mets can beat Atl, Philly it is only by default.

I'm still holding out hope that the Yanks and Sox will find Santana deal to be too much to swallow and the Coupons will go for a deal. This will tip the balance to us by a good margin.

Did see where others (Mariners, Royals) are making bid for Silva. So, hopefully that option goes away (I don't want him here for 3-4-5 yrs).

JD - you make a good point about the plus/minus of our competition, but unless something changes or HumPhrey can pitch at this level we will repeat last year where we lose it at the end.

I don't see the elation of the Mets lineup over the Phils:

C Ruiz is better offensively and defensively than Schneider
1B Howard kills Delgado
2B Utley kills Castillo
3B Wright kills whomever they platoon
SS Until Reyes wipes that smirk off of Rollins face, Rollins gets the edge
LF Burrell beats Alou if only because he plays all year, has a better arm and fields almost as bad as Alou, but Alou has higher avg.
CF Beltran kills Victorino
RF Werth has a slight edge over Church....

Mets line-up is better than the Phils. The loss of Rowand is huge. The Phils just don't have the depth in the line-up the Mets do.

Rollins/Reyes
Victorino/Castillo
Utley/Wright
Howard/Beltran
Burrell/Alou
? /Delgado
? /Church
? /Schneider

Philadelphia also has no 3b...I'd think that if you had to rank the 3 top teams, you'd give Atlanta the best rotation, the Mets the best pen, and Philly the best lineup, though I do think that the Met lineup matches up well with Philly.

Congrats on the server? haha

I agree. ATL is worse, PHI...even?, WASH could be good, could be bad, I think it's on Acta to keep his team functioning, and FLA will be awful.

Mets, as of now, have a great shot at the title, as the rest of the East hasn't really done much to better themselves.
