Fehr is ever the lawyer …

December

Union chief Donald Fehr didn’t get an advance copy of the Mitchell Report, so he hedged and dodged. He spoke like a lawyer, saying the union was dissed and this was detrimental to the collective bargaining process.

He also said the union has always been cooperative in dealing with the steroid issue which caused some to scratch their heads. He also said his job was to protect the players, which sounded like the Fehr prior to labor peace.

Fehr’s advice to the players about cooperating with Mitchell was for them to get their own lawyers and follow their counsel. Mitchell took this as not being cooperative. He also said that action was not unexpected.

No one should ever answer any police/government questioning without a lawyer present.

JD: If any labor leader would say anything other than his job is to protect his players/members, that pres would be fired immediately by the membership.

As for the players, kids are trained by their peers not to be a snitch when they are in kindegarden. I guess its a lesson that is never forgotten!

And as a former DOJ guy, Dan is absolutely correct. No lawyer, no speak is the only way to go. I didn’t like it but any friend who would ask that’s what they’d be told.

Today was a good day for OMAR. The LoDuca fan club is abandoning ship and none of his key guys (well I guess Schoeneweiss is one of his key guys since he gave him 3 years to suck for us) and none of his new guys made the list.
Best day you had Omar since you signed Wagner.

To Dan and Sloppy (RE: Fehr): Of course one would expect Fehr to be defensive, but couldn’t he have said something as simple as: “I am optimistic we can reach some accord.”

He hadn’t read the report, but there was some sabre rattling.-JD

I didn’t see Guillermo Mota listed in the report. Does he now have a shot at Cooperstown?

Obviously since Mota was not named he is a clean player.

JD: I think if I was Fehr, and wasn’t given an advanced copy of something blasting my members, I’d be pretty ticked at the moment. Considering, I thnk he was rather mellow.

dave, Mota is in the HOF with 99.9% of the vote. Too bad the Jacket didn’t know how to get those talents out on the mound. He be the first Cy Young Set up man this year.

  9. Dan Gurney

Milwaukee should have a fine bullpen in 2008 with Gagne and Mota.
