Winter Meetings buzz …

December
3

Do you remember Steve Trachsel? How can you forget? He is interested in taking his 4.48 ERA (Baltimore) back to the NL with Colorado. That would be interesting in a morbid train wreck sort of way.

Baltimore is talking to the Angels and Giants about shortstop Miguel Tejada. That is, if those teams can’t get Miguel Cabrera from Florida. The Orioles are finding it difficult to deal Tejada because of his declining power numbers (18 homers last year); poor range and uncertainty he can move to third; and, of course, his salary ($26 million due in the next two seasons).

The Dodgers confirmed talking with center fielder Andruw Jones, who is coming off the worst season of his career at .222, 26 homers and 96 RBI. Jones is a 10-time Gold Glove winner and five-time All-Star. Torii Hunter got a five-year, $90-million deal from the Angels. No doubt that’s what he’s thinking.

Milwaukee is reportedly thinking about St. Louis third baseman Scott Rolen with the intent of moving Ryan Braun to left.

Thats a great move for the Brew-Crew

I heard the Dodgers made an offer to Andruw of two years and $32 million, which is hardly music to Boras’ ears.

Also, I heard that the Brewers are offering Capuano for Rolen, provided that the Cardinals pick up some of Rolen’s salary.

As for your Mets, I want to put on my Miss Cleo doo-rag and predict that the road to euphoria will pass through Pittsburgh, a team with too many starting pitchers and a gaping hole in centerfield.

To Benny (RE: A-Jones): Those were the numbers I also heard on Andruw Jones.-JD

Way to work the lobby Benny! :-)

So, the Nationals just picked up Dukes from Tampa. This means their 1B/OF slots are now crowded with Dukes, Milledge, Kearns, Wily Mo Pena, Dmitri Young and, if healthy, Nick Johnson.

Do you get the sense Washington will be looking to turn this surplus into a starting pitcher?

If the Mets are gonna trade off Gomez and possibly FMart, who is gonna play OF after 08?

Why aren’t they interested in Jones or Rowand, especially Jones if it is only 2 yrs? Oh, I forgot. The Wilpons don’t want to spend any more money since they will have a money printing press at CitiField.

I am getting the impression that CitiField will become the new Camden Yards…...great place to see a game…..but not a winning team

Benny: No, but I think they need to get some sort of emotional counselor with guys like Pena, Milledge, and Young on the team. LOL.

  8. Benny Ayala

You forgot Dukes—he makes Milledge look like an altar boy.

  9. steve

Oh yeah…actually Dukes was what prompted me to write that! I can’t believe I ended up forgetting to add him in. LOL.

Scoopcoop: Why do you like Rowand ? He had a career year in a bandbox of a ball park and even a Phillies blog shows defensive stats that state he is a below average CF.
Plus the Phillies offered him arbitration, so no way I give up a draft pick for him. On Jones do you know if the Braves offered him arbitration ? If not I think Omar might still get involved in signing him. NY is a lot closer to home than LA.
Also please tell me what FA outside of Jones makes any sense to overpay.

Yup, poke fun at the Nats. Like we really have quality characters in Wagner and Church.

  12. steve

Last time I checked neither Wagner or Church did anything illegal or were suspended. They may say some stupid and ignorant things, but at least they don’t have any troubles with the law.

  13. steve

I’ve come to the realization that the Mets are going to need Pedro to be their ace. We need to pray for miracles!

Being a bigot is worse than arguing with an ump. Its funny how when Mets have a bad character its washed away but when an ex Met has a problem he’s awful.

Buy into the Wilpon double standard if you will, but fact is they agred to 2 year Mota contract, they knew about Chiurch’s mouth, and the only time they care is when it makes them sound good. And Milledge hasn’t had any problems woth the law since the Mets drafted him. They knew his HS history and were ok with it, but when he showboats he’s bad, when he raps he’s bad but when a 28 year old makes bigoted comments its ok??? when a closer who can’t perform in the clutch is poison to his team mates its ok. When he’s gone he’ll become a Wilpon rat.

And by the way all I mentioned was there character.
