Yorvit Torrealba will not be a Met.
“We do not have an agreement with Yorvit Torrealba and there are no ongoing negotiations with him or his agent,’’ Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz said tonight.
The club had reached an agreement with Torrealba on a three-year, $14.4 million contract pending the passing of a physical, which was never announced. Torrealba has had shoulder problems the last two seasons and experienced difficulty throwing.
Maybe this opens the door for Paul Lo Duca’s return. Trade options include Baltimore’s Ramon Hernandez, Texas’ Gerald Laird and Florida’s Miguel Olivo, but working in Lo Duca’s favor is the Mets would prefer to spend their trade chips to acquire pitching.

Hallelujah!! :-D I would say you made my night, except Jason Strudwick potted the game-winner in overtime for the Rangers, which was most unexpected.
Gerald Laird?? Wouldn’t that be even worse?
In response to your last post’s question I don’t know. Wait, isn’t he on third? Hardy-har-har.
Olivo has a bad rep in Florida and he had that dust up with
Reyes so unless the fish release him, I doubt he will end up in NY. Barret is a type A FA so I hope the Mets are not that stupid as to sign him. Kendall is a type B FA and 2 yrs younger than LoDuca so maybe take a shot at him.
I wonder if Torealba’s name is going to show up on the Mithell report and this is what has the Mets backing out.
We will find out soon enough.
btw unless I am wrong the list shows A. Jones as a Type B FA maybe Omar will take a chance on him for RF on a 1 yr deal if he does not get what he wants long term.
Jason Kendall is awful. That is all.
Any chance we get Andy Pettitte. Yeah, I wish.
This blew my mind today.
I’m pulling for Ronnie Paulino.
I forgot, we should definitely go after Linebrink now that he is a free agent, since Omar was willing to trade for him. Linebrink, Feliciano, Heilman would rule, even without Duaner or possibly El Duque in there. Then just add Schoeneweis, drop Mota, and have Wagner at the end. And if Duaner isn’t all there, it’s a battle between Pelfrey, Mota, Smith, Padilla, and whoever else wants to throw in the bullpen.
There was a report that the O’s want to dump salary. Maybe the mets can pull off a deal for Hernandez for very little in the way of players.
Besides, if they get Ramon Hernandez, Keith-Mex can complain some more how his luggae gets mixed up with another Hernandez….
I bet his shoulder is messed up.
Spiderpig: Linebrink is a type A FA. I hope the Mets would not be that stupid as to give up their 1st pick in the draft for a middle reliver who had better numbers in SD than after he was traded to Mil. Put Pelfrey in the pen for a year and see what happens.
Last thing
MO, Jorge, Arod, maybe Lowell and petite…The yanks miss the WS and they go out and be agressive
The Mets….they collapse and we are talking about 5MM backup C who either has a bad shoulder or is a steriod boy or both
and the end of their best day 2b like Eck and Castillo…
2006….the peak for 6yr cycle…..now we are on the way down….my hope is waining….
I don’t understand the logic the Yankees are agressive.
At this point all they did was resign their own FA’s.
If Lowell signs with them then say they are agressive, otherwise they have done nothing to make their team better.
I think Lowell has a better chance of playing 3rd base for the Phillies than playing for the Yanks. His swing is perfect for CBP.
The truth is the Mets are stuck between a rock and a hard place. The collapse really means they need to make changes but if they overreact then they could do more damage to the future. I know the Torealba situation sucks big time, but lets see what happens in early December before we go totally nuts.
John,
Was there really a deal in place? Or was Torealba’s agent just playing a game?
And when does the non-tender list come out? With Castor on board, it makes a lot of sense to see who shows up on that list before making another commitment.
To ADL (RE: Was there a deal?): There was a deal contingent on passing a physical. That was three days ago. The Mets aren’t saying, but it stands to reason he flunked.-JD
To Scott (RE: Torrealba and the Mitchell report): Would it surprise anyone?-JD
Lets see:
Yanks: Superstar leaves team A and then has to beg team A to return.
Mets: Mediocre C is shunned. Mediocre GM has to beg him to return.
Yanks need help in bullpen. Yanks call up kid who throws 100. Mets need help in rotation. Mets call up Lawrence. Yanks need early season starter. Call up rookie. Mets need early season starter, call up Chan Ho Park.
Yanks spend wonter of 06 looking for veteran starter, sign Andy Pettite, Mets spend winter of 06 looking for starter sign Schoeneweiss.
Yanks play to win. Mets play to play.
Yanks fans are programmed to get te best regardless of cost. Met fans are programmed to worry about using a little too much of the Wipons’ $$. Now we’re afraid to lose a draft choice. Why? The farm system sucks anyway.
Yanks own the rags. Mets don’t even see the rags anymore. Its Sunday. Go G-MEN.
As Casey Stengel once said ¨You need a catcher, cause if you don´t have one there´ll be a lot of passed balls.¨
Now that the Mets will probably re-sign LoDuca, many WFAN listeners can relax. LoDuca had a spot with Benigno and Roberts every Tuesday at Noon which was probably the most listened to 5-10 minutes on the FAN every week. It was always a free-for-all and a blast. I’m sure he’ll get asked back if he’s with the Mets.
I always hoped that Omar and Willie listened to those spots – it would have helped them understand their team just a bit more.
If Torrealba was using PEDs he should ask for a refund. a 618 OPS on the road. Guillermo Mota was more effective in 2006.
Any chance of getting Mike Glavine back? How come Tom would give the Mets a “give my talentless brother a line in the baseball encyclopedia” discount?
Scott from Pelham, thanks for being the voice of reason. While I am a lifelong Mets fan, and I know that Yankees news will usually trump Mets no matter what, but all they did was re-sign their FAs that no one wanted anyway b/c they are all overpriced and old. Big whoop. Keep in mind, Mets didn’t sign Beltran until January in 2005 after going back and forth with Houston. RELAX, as Frankie used to say. I like Paulino too though h onestly, I don’t think he’s much of an upgrade. I can see a trade for Paulino and Snell, though I know he’s a lower priced and younger version of Steve Trash-ball, I can see him giving the Mets some solid pitching, keeping them in games and stuff.
GREAT NEWS! now re-sign Lo Duca and forget about this bum Eckstein!
LoDuca will never see a Mets uniform again unless he buys one in the sovenir shop.
He has a big mouth and the Wilpons don’t like guys w/big mouths.
Get over it already. He might get bugged eyed which makes some fans excited but face it-he is 35, can’t throw the ball anymore and despite his claims of wanting to be here he was reported to want a 4 yr deal.
Is there a good catcher who is significantly better than Paulie that we can trade for? If not Omar needs to swallow his pride and resign our starting catcher and use his chips for the front line pitcher we need.
Do any of you actually follow the Mets? Do you ever read the papers or watch TV or listen to the radio?
In every media it has been reported that LoDuca wanted more than the Mets were willing to give.
In every media it has been reported that the Mets don’t like his big mouth.
HE IS GONE!!!!
