Tom Glavine’s agent, Gregg Clifton, is to meet with Braves GM Frank Wren today in Phoenix.
One year for $9 million with an option sounds about right. Glavine could also field offers from Washington and Philly, but it is hard to believe he would go anywhere but Atlanta or the Mets.
It is clear, the Mets aren’t his first choice.

Never was.
Look at the bright side. Glavine is a type A free agent. If he signs with Atlanta the Mets get Atlanta’s # 1 pick. I would rather have that pick than some 41 year old pitcher.
I don’t like the thought that the whole time Glavine was here he was wishing that he was still with Atlanta but thats how it seems.
Good by Glavine. I hope you play in the same # of World Series you played in for us. Nothing like a guy on your team who wants to be elsewhere. What heart!! He should give back some of the money he was paid here.
The Mets haven’t been his first choice since last year. It’s not a shock
Glavine’s last game with the Mets is the least memorable “last game” since Joe Pignatano hit into a triple play to finish 1962. “Deep flyball to 2nd” says the gamelog on baseball-reference (Ken Hubbs). If he signs with the Braves a first round compensation choice sounds alright in this era of big market teams telling agents to be “difficult” so they can draft high ceiling guys. But we are giving up a guy who was pretty good most of the year for a possible four years down the road. Rebuilding so soon?
Sloppy – Why do you keep putting Flores out to be the savior? It’ snot like he put up even good numbers for Washington this year, even given that he was a backup catcher. Castro would probably be a better option than him. Sure he was the Mets’ best catching prospect, but that’s not saying much. HE only hit .266 in his last season with us at A-ball. Sure, Omar should have protected him to see how he would play at higher levels, but he’s not looking to be the next Piazza, and he wouldn’t play on the Mets next season anyway.
Spiderpig: Savior?? I call the man a prospect and you say I call him a savior. The kid had great numbers in St Lucie and showed a cannon for an arm in DC. .266 with more than 10 homers in St Lucie is fine numbers. And he wouldn’t have been in the bigs last year if not for Rule 5 draft numbers so the numbers are meaningless. He has far more potential than LoDuca, Castro, Torrealba or any other catching name floating around. It would have been one thing if Omar used him in a trade for something, but he left him off the 40 man for Franco, That is of no concern to you? Signing Franco to 2 years was a joke, on us… And the franchise suffers for it. And he probably would have played for us next season. But thanks to mismanagement we’ll never know will we? You got this one, very wrong Spiderpig. This kid will be very good when he is ready. Look at Hundley. His numbers in St Lucie were abominable and he did pretty good until hurt. St Lucie is a tough place for kids to show numbers We don’t have enough prospects to give any away in Rule 5. Will we lose more kids this December becasue of Mota not being released?? Probably one kid will be gone again.
The debate is great so please keep making me defend my opinions!!!!
The saddest part about Glavine is that the ownership gave him everything he wanted, including letting the oraganization waffle in the wind for several weeks while he courted the Braves last off-season. And then after the horrible start the last game of the season, he lacked the class to at least take even a little blame for the debacle. I didn’t expect him to come out and say he was completely at fault b/c he did have a decent yr, but he did nothing.
I hope Jeffy boy has finally learned a lesson not to get to close to players b/c the three guys he is mostly closely associated w/are: Glavine (who did just about everything he could to get out of here); Traschel (who left Willie hanging w/his “injury” after Jeffy let him try to fix his marital problems); and Leiter who I’m convinced, got Kazmir traded by complaining to Jeffy that he was a bad kid (have you ever heard that he is a problem in TB?) b/c he played some music too loud.
Slop, again this is why your issues w/Omar to me a minor compared to these kinds of things.
Could the Mets at least make an offer to Arod? No. 2nd fiddle as always.
And for the guy who says I’m bashing. Well, when you collapse you would think you’d try to make some improvements. I don’t see it yet. But I hope.
John, do the Mets and Glavine once again have a gentlemen’s agreement not to offer arbitration and thus not gain a draft pick if he leaves?
bye bye Tommy
Glavine is a good for nothing rag arm. He never wanted to come to NY. Not five years ago when he signed his four year contract and not last year when he signed his one year contact. He never had the guts to pitch in NY. The bottom line is that he doesn’t want to be here so who needs him. Let him go back to Atlanta and our lineup can start teeing off against him the way the Braves did when he was a Mets. He won’t be missed.
To all those who won’t mmiss miss glavine. YOU ARE CORRECT!
To all the Glavine haters go to mets.com and read the current article which lays out a good argument for keeping Glavine – not that we have the choice.
Tom G….don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.
