My point about him as JD and I have repeatedly stated is he is still a good pitcher.

Yes he is not dominant, but he is serviceable and 200 ip is not something to toss away. Yes he has been blown up a few too many times this past year. and He never could throw it past you. His style is control and out thinking the hitter. So as long as he keeps in good shape and can control the ball being 39 or 41 doesn’t matter much.

As for his allegiance. He is a Brave always will be. Every year he checks with them to give them first bids. But when he has signed to play with the Mets he came out every fifth day and did what he could to help us win.

I do not think he will be back next year cause it sounds as if the Braves want him back.

My point is we need starting pitching and as the old saying goes don’t cut off your nose to spite your face.

dave, if glavine had all those great starts with 7-9 innings pitched I’d agree with you but the guy can’t go deep, and he needs rookie laden lineups and genrous umps to do his magic. And I would take Traxs because at least he isn’t a Brave lover in a Met uniform. He ain’t good but he doesn’t go whining back to the Braves every year looking for a contract. If we’re a first class team we shouldn’t play second fiddle to the Braves for anyone. I hate Glavine as much as Annie hates AROD. But if he comes back I’ll root for him 32 more times I guess.

Actually he now reminds me of Hershiser as a Met. good for 75 pitches then get him out of there. We can’t afford that with the rest of our staff.

I agree with Dave that Glavine is still effective. However, he’s not a No. 1 starter anymore. But, his production is more than acceptable for a No. 3-4-5.

I know that last game sticks in everybody’s memory, but he more than carried his own weight before that.-JD

a two year record trumps a one year record. And there were a large number of games where Glavine was very effective this past year.

He had 18 games last year of 2 earned runs or less and they won 18 games that he started. So yes he was very ineffective

The Mets could sign a free-agent starter. Liván Hernández, Carlos Silva and Kyle Lohse are available, but they do not fit Minaya’s definition of a front-line starter.

Plus the mets have 42-24 record in games he started.

That is not below avg.

He’s a decent 5th starter but he’ll command a lot more salary than that spot is worth. He’ll pitch some good games and he’ll pitch some awful ones—Carlos Silva can do that for the same money and still be around for another couple of years. Jorge Sosa can do that for less money.

What Glavine does or doesn’t do during the offseason will have little affect on the Mets’ 2008—he’s not an impact player anymore. He’ll help wherever he plays but he doesn’t bring enough to put any team over the top.

That Glavine is talking with the Braves now comes as no surprise because he’s always being family a preference. As long as the Braves weren’t a player, Glavine would go to the Mets. However, once the Braves became a factor, the advantage shifted to them.-JD

I’d rather have Omar keep bringing up the kids than see Tom Glavine again.
