GMs voted 25-5 in favor of limited use of instant replay on home runs. It could work.
There’s so much to look for in football. On a fumble, when did his knee or elbow touch the ground in relation to losing the ball? Many times the view is difficult because there’s an arm or leg obstructing the view. Did the receiver maintain control and get both feet down?
Instant replay has a chance to work in baseball because much of the action is at fixed locations: the foul line, the bases, and the fence. Cameras can be focused on those locations. Balls trapped in the outfield are harder to judge, and of course, the strike zone is a nightmare.
Personally, I think they are considering replay because the umpiring has been so off the past few years. The real issue is whether to remove the human element.
