“Jorge Posada”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5502 said what happens to Joe Torre could impact his decision on returning to the Yankees. We know there’s nothing binding when a player makes those comments.
Posada would be a guy I’d like to see on the Mets. It sounds callous, but his son is getting medical treatment and that will have a bearing on what he does. The last thing he wants is uproot his family and find a new set of doctors, although wherever he goes he’ll have resources for the best.
That would work in the Mets’ favor if the Yankees come in drastically low.
The Yankees low-balled Posada early in his career, and it didn’t sit well with him. Now he has the hammer, so I’m not sure what kind of “discount’’ he’ll give them.
However, working against the Mets has been the Yankees’ tumultuous offseason. They really can’t afford to lose the bats of both Posada and Alex Rodriguez, and not having the latter definitely gives them more latitude to write checks (not that they couldn’t in the first place.)
My gut says Posada stays with the Yankees.
