For those season-ticket holders, I’m wondering a few things:
1. Will you renew or cancel your season tickets (either full or partial plans)?
2. If you’ve received an invoice for 2008 tickets, how much was the price increase?

The Mets have pretty much made purchase of 2008 season tickets a condition to purchase of season tickets for 2009 and the new stadium. Even fans who would be likely to cancel based on last season will be very reluctant to do so now because they will be shut out in 2009.
The Mets have been conspicuously silent about whether partial plan holders will get any priority to buy tickets in the new stadium. If they will not (and the Mets make clear that they will not), I can see a lot of partial plan cancellations for 2008.
I was a Saturday plan holder last season and am considering upgrading to the full season to be assured of last day at Shea (and of course first day at Citi Field tickets in 09). I have a friend from college who would be open to joining in the full package, so that’s not an issue.
Does anyone have any experience splitting the season up with another group, or even selling off 5- to 10-game packages to other fans?

1. I’m debating whether to renew my partial plan due to the fact that the Mets have been silent on the issue of whether partial plan holders will receive any type of priority in Citi Field. During this past summer, I believe Dave Howard was quoted along the lines of saying that “at this time, the Mets can give no assurances to partial plan holders with respect to seating priority at Cit Field.”
2. Invoices for 2008 have not yet been sent out. They are usually sent out in late November or early December.
John, please let us know if you’re able to get any information with respect to the Mets or even the Yankees’ intentions with respect to whether partial plan holders will receive seating priority at either team’ new ballparks.
We passed on getting season tickets at the beginning of the 2007 season, but did purchase the “Pennant Race Pack” for the final 21 games of the season and a committment for the full season next year. We went to about 10 of those games and was able to sell our tickets for another half dozen on StubHub. I figure that we’ll (I share the 4 seats with two friends) go to between 20-30 regular season games next year. I have already emailed every Mets fan I know and hope to be able to sell another 20-30 games that way. The rest will go on StubHub. I don’t mind eating the regular season tickets because we’re really interested in getting seats in Citi Field.
As far as invoices for next year goes, we still haven’t heard from the Mets about getting a refund for our postseason tix (paid in advance with a $6/ticket “handling” fee)! I thought we were supposed to be given the option of getting a refund or having the money credited towards next year’s tickets.
JD, I was going to re-evaluate my status as a full season ticket plan holder, since I had gone in with my ex last year and we split, and I got custody of the seats – although I go to maybe 30 games per year, I was going to rethink my status. I figured I could prob spend a lot less buying a T/F package and going to select weekend games with friends I know who have weekend plans. That said, my dad agreed to split 2008 with me (I think he likes the playoff option).
Like most of the other responses here, the Mets have been conspicuously silent about what partial plan holders rights are in the new stadium. Although I think – evaluating other newer stadiums – partial plan holders I think will have similar right to what they have now – like mid-to-upper levels but I expect a price hike, which is fine, because I know that I will be able to resell for the new stadium no problem. I also managed to get butts into my seats for every game this season – if you are a season ticket holder, you probably know what an awesome feat that is, LOL! I also think that – and please take this with a grain of salt, i don’t mean to sound “elitist” for lack of a better term – but why shouldn’t season ticket holders not be given priority for the new stadium? I think it’s the right way to handle things. But I know, some people who have had partial plans forever – it’s a delicate situation no doubt. But believe me, with the price hike, I doubt I’m going to get similar seats to my mezzanine box third base side in the sun currently in Citi Field. I am expecting lower tier of the upper level.
And JD, i have no idea what the cost is going to be – but I know most Met fans were p’d off going into 2007 because of the ending of 2006 and the Mets had the gall to raise prices for 2007. I had Diamond Club passes for example for $500 per year. I use this as a reselling factor – I tout the fact you can enter the stadium through a “private” entrance – plus I think families like the option of being able to sit and enjoy their overprice concession fare. However, in 2006 I paid for the last half of the season, btw, $500 for two spots. It was worth it, as far as I was concerned and did it again this year. Do you know they had the b@lls to raise prices $25 per head? It’s not like the food is wonderful and good. Whatever.
And Michael – I think it is more economical to hold on to your playoff “pre-payment” for 2008 – by the time the Mets actually get around to crediting your account, it will be time to pay for 2008 anyway, you’re b etter off paying it down now. Trust me on this one. Although I have to say, it’s in extremely poor taste for the Mets to be like – we are bitterly disappointed, blah blah blah, and then be like – Oh! If you want a credit it will be 4-6 weeks. When I know it takes them 5 minutes to process and they have more than enough people working for them.
Again, I think they are taking the fans money for granted, especially in respect to priority seating at the new stadium.
I have been a Sunday plan holder for years… last year, I upgraded to a Full Season plan so as to guarantee tickets for Citifield. I guess I am one of many who have done just that given the ambiguity of the Mets ticket policy regarding availability of tickets for the new stadium.
Yes, I will absolutely renew for next season. Given the massive credit I have on my account due to the team not making the postseason, the cash outlay will not be all that bad. God gives ya lemons…. :)
I’ve had a Saturday plan for the last couple of years. At this point, renewal is my only chance at getting tix for CitiField, and a seemingly slim one at that, as the other commenters have said. But in for a penny, in for a pound, as they say.
Michael—If you bought playoff tix via your plan (ie, you got an invoice for them), then they’re credited to your account. Whenever the Mets send out renewal invoices, the money you spent on those tix will appear on the invoice and go against your balance. At least that’s what they did last year; I had two tix to a never played World Series game…
i was a full season plan holder for the first time last season.
i will be a full season holder next year.
like someone else said, they havent sent out the invoices yet, but i did get mail about getting a refund for the non used playoff tickets. you had the choice of a refund or leave as a credit.
side note: how much are the mets making in interest of all this “borrowed” money?
im sure the mets can make a decision on partial ticket holders until they know the numbers of full ticket holders for citifield.
with a lot fewer seats, they may not be able to accomodate all partial ticket holders. yes, that does suck for those who have had them for a long time.
I have had a Saturday plan for many years. The expense, combined with the seeming back-tracking on the earlier promises of having the inside track “if and when” a new stadium was built, the 2006 and 2007 endings, and the interest I have lost and the Mets have gained on my post season purchase in two successive Augusts, have left me re-thinking how to spend my money.
Here’s what I’m thinking now. Between the Saturday plan and the post-season, I spent about $3,200 for four seats (plus about $600 for other games throughout the year). If I take that $3,800 and go to Stub Hub in 2008, I should be able to buy a few games at $itifield plus a post-season game, if they make it. The money will be spent throughout the season, letting me keep it in my bank and not send it to the Mets all at once in December of 2007.
And when the Mets (unfortunately) are a mediocre team again sometime in the future, and they come begging me to buy a ticket plan, I may get offered a better location than if I stay a Saturday plan holder in 2008 [see 2007 Knicks’ $10 offers].
Not completely related to this topic but my family has had season tickets for over 20 years and we received a letter in July saying they would be starting to assign seats in the new stadium for season ticket holders beginning before the end of the 2007 season. Still haven’t heard a word in regards to this and I was curious if anyone has?
I’ll be honest, I am a little worried my new seats won’t be so comparable due to the fact that ownership will likely want to place corporate sponsors, friends, family… in the best seats in turn pushing everyone else further off the field.

I’m a Sunday plan holder and was a bit put off by the slow turnaround with postseason ticket refunds. The Mets accrued interest on my money while I sat and waited several weeks to get my money back. I haven’t received an invoice yet for next season, but I do plan on repurchasing the plan because despite how the front office may handle my account, I still love my Metsies.
I’ve had a Sunday plan the last 2 years and will be back in 2008. I’m still waiting for my post season tickets refund. The letter sent out for refunds said the time for ordering for 2008 were still several weeks away.
I’m worried that when the team moves to Citi Field that the current partial plans like the Sunday package will disappear and be replaced by a partial plan that requires buying 2 games a week, like the Tues. and Fri. package.
I’ve had a Saturday plan for a few years now and recently upgraded to the Full Season last year. I will be keeping both my plans with the reason behind them being soley Citi Field in 2009.
I did get the relocation letter mentioned above and I’m sure that they are waiting to get a few more deposits in for 2008 before they start this relocation, because it’s all about the money.
I would have to say I would be very disapointed in the price increase for 2008(Maybe I’ll even send a letter like the Mets did about not making the playoffs). I dont care about an increase in 09, but for 2008 that seems a little rude in my opinion.
My reasoning for upgrading to the Full Season plan was to ensure myself Citi Field seats where there is no guarantee with the partial plan at the moment. I will keep the partial plan as well for 08 for the hope of having it for 09 but it I don’t I have the fall back plan.
I had the Sunday package in 2006, upgraded to the Tuesday/Friday package this year. My friend and I were set to get season tickets for 2008 but decided against it. I have two major complaints. The first is we bought the Tuesday/Friday plan before the season started and got stuck in section 18. After the season started they were offering the same package from behind home plate. I did not appreciate that. Second I dislike the way they keep trying to squeeze money from us any way possible. The refund process for the playoff tickets this year is pathetic. I get a mail from the Mets telling me I have about a week to return this mail in order to get my refund otherwise it will be use as credit toward next year. They did not even insert a self address envelope for me to return to. You would think they would be able to do that with all the “handling” charge they do.
I have decided against purchasing any plans for next year. I will pick and choose games to attend to next year. I will roll the dice about 2009 with Citifield. I find it hard to believe I will not be able to tickets if I don’t buy season for 2008.
my family are season ticket holders, and a lot of the reason we are renewing is because of the new stadium in 2009…my father is very die hard about the Mets, we had tickets field level in right field, but my dad didn’t renew after they lost to the Yankees in 2000, then after a year off and a LOT of persuading from me, my mom, and my sisters, he got them again, now we are loge at third base so seeing as how this season went, if we weren’t moving into a new stadium, my dad probably would not be renewing his tickets…put it this way, the Mets picked a good year to collapse, because now because of the stadium, they won’t lose nearly as many ticket holders as they would have
I’ve had the Sunday plan for many years. I’m not sure about renewing considering a few years ago, an e-mail response from the Mets stated that all ticket plan holders would get first seating in a potential new stadium, including Sunday plan holders. It doesn’t look like that now, though. It will all probably come down to the offseason they have. If I have to spend my hard earned money, I feel the Mets could improve the team with their (our) hard earned money. If they do nothing in the offseason by the time renewals are due, I’ll wait it out and get a Sunday plan without renewing. The whole “seating” doesn’t bother me as much since it would be for just one season.

Saturday plan holder since forever; of course I’m renewing my seats.
My experience is that the Mets always keep you guessing right up until the end so as to pry as much money as possible out of you, i.e., they haven’t said anything about Citi seats for partial plan holders because they want us to be nervous and commit to a full season plan. I fully expect them to offer me a Saturday plan, with worse seats but at a higher price, before the 2009 season.
And y’know what? I’ll gladly take it, because I love the Mets and going to the games.
I’ve been a sunday plan holder for the past 5 seasons. I definitely will be renewing my plan. The only things that irk me in the past are the payments for partial and season plan holders, why do payments need to be renewed by the end of the year. Seems pretty early.
Another thing that bothered me at last years playoffs were the seating arrangements. My normal seats are in loge but the playoff tix were in the nosebleeds? The view was alright but I just felt like they didn’t treat plan holders right.
I hope that the Mets give all plan holders the similar seats in the new stadium. That would be a poor way to start off the 2009 by pissing off all these Mets fans. Hopefully we can open the new stadium by raising the 2008 World Series champs banner.
Is it me or has this been the longest post season? The Rockies and Red Sox just seem uninteresting to me.
I like going to a ballgame once a week so I’m renewing my T/F plan for the 5th season.
I canceled. Not because of the horrible end to an otherwise fun season. But because it’s just impossible to go to 25 games and next to impossible to resell the tickets to games you can’t go to. I had bought the Tues/Fri plan with the idea of having guaranteed tix for Citifield last year but it was just too much to get rid of the extras. I’ll go with the six-pack again this year and figure out tix for 2009 then I guess.
