Orlando Hernandez underwent surgery today to remove a bunion on the second toe of his right foot. Surgery on the the tendon of his right foot could be at the end of next week.
The club said it expects him to be ready for spring training.
-GM Omar Minaya said reliever Duaner Sanchez is progressing well and could possibly play winter ball.
-Minaya also said reliever Ambiorix Burgos won’t be able to pitch until late next season, if at all, following Tommy John elbow surgery.
A healthy Sanchez would upgrade the bullpen tremendously, but that’s not a guarantee. The Mets still have to approach the offseason needing to address the pen.

Come on Dirty Sanchez….we’re counting on yeh!
When did Burgos have the surgery? He should have had it as soon as possible after the injury. Sheesh, he’ll be useless next year coming off that surgery.
