My plans are to watch the Indians and Red Sox tonight. You know if it is a Colorado-Cleveland Series (which the TV people don’t want to see) a lot will be made of the low payrolls and building from within.
But, don’t forget, the expectations are a lot higher in New York. There’s a demand to win here that doesn’t exist in other cities. Also, New York isn’t an easy place to play. It takes more to bring people here. That explains, in part, the higher payrolls here.
As far as building from within, that’s always the best way. The Mets have a young core, but there’s not a lot of imminent help in the minor leagues, mostly because Lastings Milledge and Carlos Gomez haven’t shown they can play full time consistently. That also means there aren’t that many blue chips to play in the trade market.
If you want to talk about this, or anything else, please post your thoughts here and I’ll get to them.
