The Mets have 14 players who are free agents. Some, like Aaron Sele and Jeff Conine, will likely retire. Some the Mets will cut ties with and others might return.
Who do you want back?
-Sandy Alomar: Could retire and go into coaching.
-Moises Alou: Hopes Mets will pick up 2008 option.
-Marlon Anderson: Terrific off the bench. A guy they should bring back.
-Luis Castillo: Filled holes at second and in the two hole in the batting order. Has creaky knees. Said he wants to return.
-Ramon Castro: Could be brought back as a back-up. Won’t start.
-Jeff Conine: Said he would retire.
-Mike DeFelice: Could retire. Best he could hope for is spring training invite with chance to go to Triple-A New Orleans.
-Damion Easley: Recovering from ankle injury. Can work out in November. Wants to come back. Filled in capably off the bench.
-Tom Glavine: Isn’t sure what he wants to do. Two hundred innings will be tough to replace.
-Shawn Green: Had a hot-and-cold year in proving he’s not an everyday player anymore. Left it open to coming back to the Mets, but I think he was being diplomatic.
-Brian Lawrence: He’s a Triple-A guy at best.
-Paul Lo Duca: Wants to come back, but wants multiple years. Club has been cool in his return. But, there’s not much else out there.
-Aaron Sele: Wasn’t used properly. Won’t be back. Doesn’t want to come back. Waffling on retirement.
-Jose Valentin: Wants to come back, but isn’t sure if he will be physically able to play.
