It doesn’t make me feel any better about the Mets not being there though. Almost 2 seperate events, and I would want the Stanks kicked to the curb anyway, no matter if the Mets won 60 games a year, or were stampeeding through the playoffs.
best thing, however, is that the media feeding frenzy about what the boss will do, when will Torre get fired, etc. will take any residual attention away from the Met’s poor finish!
I did watch Torre’s post game press conference. As much as I hate the yankees, and think that Torre is overrated as a manager (in game at least, he is good about managing personalities and the oddities of that club), he does seem like a nice, upstanding guy, and I personally wish him the best.
Like Willie, he rolled out the pitchers he was given, and they didn’t come through for the most part. Plus, his offense went south at the wrong time, and it is hard to blame that on him!

No not really. There are some reprehensible Yankees like Clemens and Giambi. But the core guys of Jeter (despite his fetish about being The Yankee Shortstop), Rivera, Posada and Bernie Williams are admirable. I will settle for 15 years apiece from four Mets. I don’t take pleasure in the misery of others although there are a few arrogant 350 lb Yankee fans who deserve it.

But at least I’ll be able to get on the train in the morning and not read headlines like CITY TO YANKS: DON’T LET US DOWN (AMNY this morning, which was so ridiculously Yankee-centric the last two weeks I started to wonder if they were on Steinbrenner’s payroll, has no baseball stories on its cover. gee i wonder why).
We didn’t show up for the regular season, they didn’t show up at the playoffs. They suffered from “it’s just the Cleveland Indians, fer chrissake” syndrome.

Actually the Phillies being swept by the Rockies gave me the warm and fuzzies. :-) The Yanks losing last night was just some icing on the cake.

I have to say that I am proud to say that at least the Mets have staff of truly professional radio and television announcers.
As a baseball fan and a woman who would have loved to have gone into sports broadcasting, I am embarrassed and appalled at Suzyn Waldman’s performance. She made John Stirling look more professional last night, and that takes doing.
Way to go Suzyn, you set women’s sports broadcasting back about 50 years.

of course I don’t feel “better” about MY team but I do feel elated that the Yankees are O-U-T. So many Yankee fans I know were happy their team would be playing Cleveland rather than the Angels….be careful what you wish for!

Does referring to them as “Skankees” really make you feel like a man? Grow up, you belong with the same clowns who call us the Mutts or Mets and make gay jokes about Reyes/Wright, Jeter/Arod.
I was not rooting for the Yankees but their demise doesn’t make me feel better about the Mets season. The Mets organization and us as fans need to cast aside any lingering fixation with the team from the Bronx if we want to forge our own identity.
I do feel for Joe Torre as a person, but he’s had enough success and made enough millions that I’m sure he’ll make out alright. He should take a well-deserved vacation from Hurricane George.

My favorite Yankee fan thing is when they try to recruit Mets fans to root for their team. As if one is only supposed to root for a “winning” team (which they are NOT) and there is no such thing as team loyalty. Look how many Yankee fans were abandoning their team in the early months of this baseball season and then when the team began to turn it around they dusted off their Yankee caps and dared wear them in public again. A Met cap is the only baseball team cap I will ever wear and I wear it whether they win or lose!
