No surprise here. Tom Glavine just told the Mets he would not exercise his $13-million player option for next season.
“Tom need more time to speak with his family to see whatÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s best for him,Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ said GlavineÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s agent, Gregg Clifton.
Glavine suggested after SundayÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s season finale this might be his decision as to buy more time. The future Hall of Famer said his options remain open, including a return to the Mets.
“After what happened (Sunday), IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢m sure IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ll need more time,Ã¢â‚¬â„¢Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ said Glavine, who gave up seven runs in one-third of an inning.
GlavineÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s contract also includes a $3 million buyout, which would be a nice consolation prize.
