Mets not going after Schoeneweis’ contract

For now at least, the Mets aren’t seeking to escape the final two years of Scott Schoeneweis’ contract. GM Omar Minaya said the Mets will wait until MLB talks with the reliever, then the results from those discussions will determine what they do, if anything.
Schoeneweis, it must be pointed out, has not failed a steroids test since the implementation of the MLB’s enhanced drug policy. In addition, after a slow start he pitched well.

SI is reporting that Glavine will most likley turn down his option and not return to the Mets. Regardless of his poor showing in his last few starts, including the last one for which he will be remembered for a long time to come, he gave the Mets a respectable season. Omar’s list just got a little longer in terms of pitching needs. I wonder who they could get with the 9 million that would save on Glavine not returning. The free agent market is not looking strong this year.
Stillsane: Don’t cry over Glavine. There is an old saying in
baseball and the Mets need to remember this. “Better a year too early than a year too late”
If it is true than: Goodbye and Goodluck Tommy and btw don’t
let the door hit you on the way out.
I believe he is a free agent, so keep on the lookout for Carlos Silva of the Twins to be in play. He’d be the perfect addition and who knows, if he is tight with Johan, it can only help.
Just read Glavine as a $9MM player option that is guaranteed if he pitchers 16o innings. There is an escalation of $1MM for every 10 ip above that up to $13MM.
For all the Glavine haters he pitched well this year. If he declines that is on him, but one of our needs is another starter.
If he walks then we need two pitchers in addition to revamping the pen. Last year we could not get one decent pitcher who wasn’t asking for A-Rod $$.

Dave: After his tank job the last three starts of the season and his reaction after the game, it would be an absolute disaster for him to be with the Mets next year. Hopefully Glavine understands this. He will absolutely be villified at Shea. His heart has always been in Atlanta. Let him go there and retire as a Brave.
