-Carlos Beltran had arthroscopic surgery on both knees.
-Jason Vargas had a bone spur removed from his left elbow.
-MRI on John Maine’s left hip is negative.
I really do like the nucleous of this team, and I am glad Willie is coming back….I also agree with Omar , that a kneee jerk reaction is not what is needed to improve this team. I for one would like to see the Mets let Milledge and Sanchez grow in their roles, and would love to see Humber and Pelfrey in the rotation next year with Maine and Perez with Pedro being to only mainstay….Sometimes, you do have to take a step backwards to move forwword…no Mets fan wants to see 2004 for a long long time…Painful as it is now, The ship is headed in the right direction…True North!
I basically just posted the same sediment. I would not waste money in this year free agent market since there is nothing good. The free agent market the year the Mets will move in to there new park they can open the books and sign Johan Santana and Mark Teixeira.
I also think Omar should focus more on the bull pen and let Pelfrey and Humber be in the starting rotation next year.
Rebuild a strong bull pen than next off season if they have a chance the Mets can sign Johan Santana and Mark Teixeira.
Beltran shouldn’t be the centerfielder anymore with his bad knees. Remember Bernie Williams and Ken Griffey Jr. the last few years in center. They were shot, the Yankees went with Damon but he’s shot but young Melky Cabrera has taken to center well. Put Gomez out there and move Beltran to a corner.
Mike: He’s playing fine…even with his knees…off-season rehabilitation following the arthroscopic surgery should help…Leave him in CF…get Rowand to play right field and use a combination of Milledge, Humber, Vargas (got to get rid of him)and another minor leaguer for Santana with the stipulation that he signs a long-term deal before we consummate the trade. He obviously doesn’t want to stay in Minnesota.
laughable to think that twins would even consider trading santana for a package of milledge, humber, vargas, and other.
either reyes or beltran would have to be the centerpiece of any trade to bring us a top of the rotation starter aka an “ace” this offseason…think something like beltran, maine, and humber if you want a realistic idea of what it’ll cost.
those other guys milledge, gomez, fmart, pelfrey, humber, guerra, carp, etc…can bring stuff back in return but save for giving up practically every one of them to minnesota, they’re not bringing back santana.
so does the mri on maine mean he won’t need surgery? just rest to get healthy?
Remember the Twins are not a normal baseball team. They don’t want Reyes or Beltran. They want multiple cheap young players. I wouldn’t be surprised if they took a good MLB ready player (Milz or Gomez) and two good prospects.
The Twins wouldn’t want Beltran and his contract. But Reyes’ contract is much more affordable.
Milledge/Gomez aren’t good enough to get the deal done. There are other teams (LA, AZ) with better prospects. To get Santana we’d probably have to do Gomez/Maine/Heilman or something like that.
I can’t believe he did both knees simultaneously. That’s got to be a brutal rehab. Do you figure he’ll be confined to a wheelchair for a week or so?
