Willie Randolph just strolled through the empty Mets’ clubhouse and wasn’t in a bad mood.
Word is he and Omar Minaya will talk with us this afternoon. That doesn’t happen if Randolph isn’t coming back.
If true, this is good on two fronts. One, Randolph doesn’t deserve to be the fall guy, and two, doing this right away is important. Letting this linger would have been a mistake.

Maybe the only thing worse than being a Mets fan today is to be a Padres fan…..
Personally, I was much more disappointed last year than this year. The Mets were so close to tasting a WS appearance in 2006, much much closer IMO than they would have been had they made the playoffs this year. I kinda think the window has closed on this particular team. You look at the FA market, really there is nothing out there unless the Mets decide to trade Beltran for a young stud starting pitcher, and you want to sign Hunter or Rowland. And certainly the crew of relievers is motley to say the least! Omar is going to have to be very imaginative to improve this team next year. It will be interesting to see it unfold.
Oh boy, I thought this past season represented Omar’s “imaginative” approach to team building.
Now I’m really worried.

Hopefully he ends up better than Yogi did after the 1964 world series where he lost in 7 after losing Whitey Ford in game 1. He went to the front office expecting to get a two year deal. He got a pink slip instead. 1965 found him as a player-coach with the Mets (why couldn’t Casey have teamed him with Warren Spahn for one game?)
Pam, can you imagine what would happen to Billy Wagner in this town if he blew 2 saves in a row in a spot like this?
Being run out of town on a rail would be the least of his problems.

John, I agree that it is good to get this over with quickly so they can move on. Only problem with that is, it guarantees they bring him back, otherwise it would have been making a snap decision to can him.
So they really would have had to delay to fully debrief the season. What if they think on it some more, review tapes, all that good stuff, and realize that Willie really was the problem?
So just because he is here still, doesn’t have to guarantee he is here in April, does it?
I’m sure it does. Just wondering!
Omar though is more on the hot seat now. He basically said it wasn’t Willies fault (or at least his share of the blame couldn’t be too big, so he came back)>
So, if it wasn’t Willie, then it was either Omar, the palyer’s, or just chance.
And since Willie is responsible for getting the players, he just made his bullseye much bigger! And I don’t this the year was just an accident, although they did have sme bad luck.
Minaya just had a press conference to announce that Willie was going to be back next year. According to the FAN
Willie taint the problem. He has things to learn, but the problem is that the staff Omar cobbled together in a weak market did not pan out.
We let go of some successful players from last year where in retrospect it would have been better to keep all of them.
From the comments above it looks like more of the same.
The only good thing is our young players are a year older with that much more experience.
