Heading out to Shea in a few minutes. Could be the last meaningful game until next year.
I knew this was a flawed team, but I thought they’d get there. They might be gone today.
There’s plenty of time for blame later, and fingers will get pointed – in a lot of directions.

Ray Sadecki,
totally agree, no to Castillo and give Hernadez a chance. Enough of this win now mentality. Omar, get younger and hungrier.
TomG: I think the Mets do have a good chance to get Santana when he does become a free agent. If they can’t trade for him this winter, just consider next season a growing year for some of the kids. I don’t mind watching a losing team as long as it’s kids out there. But I hate to watch losing baseball with a team full of aging veterans. So put Milledge in RF, Gomez in LF, Gotay at 2nd, and find a youngster for catcher. Let Humber start too. At least try to trade Delgado, bring back either Green or Alou but not both, and eat the contract of Mota. I can watch a team like that even if they don’t win. It’ll kill me to have to watch Mota blow games for the Mets in 2008.
JK,
AMEN brother, I’m with you. The only way i see them get santana if he plays out the string and becomes a free agent but why would the twins allow that to happen and get nothing for him?
Oh, another thing, it appears that the marlins might try and trade willis, I hope Omar doesn’t go after Willis. I’m not impressed with Willis. I rather any day of the week get santana but not Wills.
Tom: Agreed on Willis. He’s too inconsistent and we have enough inconsistent starters with Maine and Perez as is. As for Santana, the Twins could trade him to a team where he’d just be a 1-year rental. Like what the Astros did with Hampton in 2000. I doubt Santana will sign with that team and will instead become a free agent after the 2008 season. I think the World Series will be a priority for Santana so he will give big market teams the edge when it comes to negotiations. However, if a team like the Angels, Red Sox, or Yankees trade for him, then he might agree to sign a long-term contract right away.
And now, back to the game. The Mets have taken a 7-0 lead over the Marlins…..
