Joe … I had a friend send me a text message last night. I would like to share it. Mind you I am a true Met fan.

As a supposed journalist I must say you are ABSOLUTELY CLASSLESS, Delcos….
BTW, you have to give credit where it is due. Someone called the FAN with that little song and now it’s everywhere
On the flip side, ya gotta take the time to read this…YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. Authored by a poster named “firsttimelongime” who is an infrequent (but sincere) Met fan over at TheScoreBoards.com and elsewhere, I think you’ll agree he definitely has orange and blue blood coarsing thru his veins 24/7:
“I poke my head in pretty often but I have not posted in a while. I figure now is as good atime as any. I posted this at the other site and it got a positive reaction. In all honesty guys I don’t think that anyone here has given up on this season. I just don’t believe that in our heart of hearts any of us actually believe that. When we say it I think we might be preparing a softer emotional landing if we have a worst case outcome. I don’t think that there is any met fan who is not hoping that the team pulls this out. Maybe some folks think we’re on life support, but we’re still breathing and that’s a fact. Hell, we are more then breathing we are tied for first place! The thing here is that it is not “us the fansâ€? and “them the teamâ€?. We are the New York Mets. That is true from ownership right on down to every single one of us. We have invested a part of our soul and a part of our identity in this team. We are in this together whether you like the manager, or the bullpen, or the GM or not. We win together and we lose together. I won’t believe that this team has quit, but even if some folks in the organization have, I will not give in to that kind of self pity. I am the New York Mets.I live in the Philly suburbs. My sons are big Mets fans. They have always shown class when the Mets are winning and they have been gracious to Phillie fans when their team gets the best of us. Phillie fans are a different breed though. They are not good losers and they show even worse sportsmanship when they win. I see what my boys are going through right now. Its bad enough they have to get up and go to school in the first place but now they are getting brutalized every day by these a-holes (this includes teachers). Every night they hang on every pitch hoping that the team will provide a needed break for the next day. More often then not they head up to bed for a night of restless disappointment and a dread for coming of the morning. They are taking a beating like men because they are the New York Mets and they have character. They have not quit, and I am damn proud. They are looking forward to a Monday morning resurrection where they will show the Ya-hoos how a winner should behave. We are the Mets. We were hatched from a crucible of losing and we CELEBRATED it. The rest of the baseball world couldn’t understand how a team that would lose 100 games could draw the number of fans it did and generate that kind of enthusiasm in the face of mind numbing relentless defeat. Those fans of that era were creative and passionate and knew the true meaning of diehard. They are the New York Mets. You’re worried about Yankee fans giving you grief. Please! They don’t know the meaning of the word adversity. The longest the Yankees have gone without a World Championship has been 16 years. Unless he was born in 1981 and passed away in 1995 there is no such thing as a true die hard Yankee fan. Don’t give me the collapse against the Red Sox in 2004 either. That is nothing compared to what Met fans have had to endure through their history…and we keep coming back for more. We are the New York Mets.We are life. Regular folks lose more often then not in life. Sometimes they achieve and every once in a rare while they experience euphoria. What the Mets are to the people the Yankees are to JP Morgan and the robber barons. We are the New York Mets.We are the bastard and abandoned children of an unholy betrayel bythe Dodgers and the Giants. We are mutants who play in eyesore of a stadium that’s is surrounded by junk yards and neighborhood bars that are crowded at 8:00AM. We are the New York Mets.I am telling all of you right now, don’t you dare quit on this team. If anyone fronm the Mets organization reads this, don’t you dare quit on us. We are in this together we are one entity. It’s a new season for the Mets and the Phils. It’s only three games long. Let’s show some yarbles and quit feeling sorry for ourselves and leave it all on the field win or lose.”
...and by the way, Sunday morning’s headline will be:
STAYIN’ ALIVE? YOU BET!
METS NL EAST CHAMPS AGAIN!
for some reason, people want to turn the mets fans into the pre-2004 red sox fans or phillies fans.
mets fans have never been defeatist or negative as a whole.
this franchise isn’t known for it’s collapses as those other franchises have been.
the mets have been known for “miracles.” 1969. 1973. game 6 in 1986 ws. magic has happened for the mets and it can again.
2 weeks won’t change that. no matter what.
Nice repost.
I forgot to mention in my earlier posts: I think this would be a worse collapse than the Yankees in 2004. We were playing much worse teams, and had a bigger lead, if you will, even though more games left.
I think that should be: seven game lead.
You Suck Delcos…you should not even have the privledge of covering the Mets… Just stick to the Phillies.
I think everyone should boycott JD’s blog because of this.. nice work…. hack.. you and wally matthews should hang together.
I find it surprising the the Cerrone (a fan) has not let losing change his tone, while the professional has turned so negative and immature. I’m not saying that somebody can’t be both objective and negative on the Mets, but whereas fans might let the negativity dictate what they say and do, it is the job of the professional to give us the scoop without the bias.
JD, the reason we come here is b/c you have ability to get information straight from the players and the clubhouse, and you’re good at analyzing that information. If we want somebody to feed our pessimism and let us know this team’s a disappointment, we can get that anywhere.
*“the the” should be “that” ...been a long week
WHy are people getting on Delcos?
This isn’t a newspaper article, this is his blog.
This isn’t his creative work, this is just taken from an earlier post from somebody else.
ANd besides, its funny.
So I don’t think its fair to say he’s unprofessional.
