The Mets fired hitting coach Rick Down because they weren’t happy with their situational hitting. I didn’t like the move then and I don’t like it now, and it has nothing to do with Howard Johnson.
I raise the issue because if they were that unhappy with the offense, how can they be pleased with the pitching?
If they could sack Down, then why is Rick Peterson seemingly untouchable?
Mike Pelfrey hasn’t progressed as they hoped and the bullpen is unreliable. Just imagine where they would be without the veteran presence.
Just something to think about for the offseason.
