Note Gomez in the lineup which means that we’ll see if Lastings’ outburst hurts the team. I’m surprised that Willie is going with the rookie over the vet, Shawn Green, even though it would mean a lefty-lefty match-up.
maybe gomez has seen this guy in the minors
Jeff H: Lastings hurt the team when he came BACK out of the dugout after his ejection. I still contend that he was baited by the umpire….they need to hold all these umpires into account….as JD has written, they should mike the umps so MLB officials can hear who starts what….of course if they were miked, I bet they wouldn’t be so quick to open their mouths….
Yes, we need umpires to manage the rules etc, but we have too many who want to be in the forefront of everything. ....it’s ruining the sport.
I’ve been watching this game for 4 decades, and few players ever do what Lastings did – run back out for repeat performance. Lastings disclosed, that after flying out, the ump warned him he’ll get kicked out if he questions his calls like he did at the plate. Right after this warning, Milledge said he lost it and went off.
What it boils down to is Milledge’s responsibility for his actions and how that impacts himself and team. He made huge mistake that costs him and the team dearly, and now has plenty time to think about it, as well as learn valuable lesson about self control and not acting out when told something he doesn’t like by an authority figure.
That is exactly the problem Lastings has.
