They had trouble getting the tarp on the field….just reinforces how mediocre the Marlins are from the front office, to the team on the field to the people who do the grounds crew.
It rains here almost every day and they have to use the tarp probably more than most MLB teams, so why in the world would they have TROUBLE getting it on the field?
*+&*&(^)(&& little leaguers….pathetic!!!!!!!!!!!!

too bad the phillies weren’t there to help them out. they have a minor in tarp maintenance from earlier in the year :)

Is Don Shula in charge of putting the tarp on for Marlins games too? They do that as well as Mota (who must be released) pitches.
Tarp is off and it is sunny. Give it time, that could change. It always does down here.-JD

Jeff: Kind of a joke. the “no tarp” 1982 AFC game is one of the major “Bad Jets losses” of Joe Beningo on WFAN. Shula is a living legend although he couldn’t win a championship with two of the greatest QBs in history-Unitas and Marino. Also Shula’s teams were outscored in the second half of all six championship games they played..so much for “half time adjustmetns”. It’s mostly jealousy but old AFC East teams: Jets, Bills, Pats and Colts HATE the Dolphins the most. Plus their fans (and media) in the Marino years were constantly bragging “this is the super bowl year for Marino” over every Dolphin win. Never heard them when the mammals lost.
For those who don’t know, the Jets offense coming into the 1982 AFC title game was high powered: Freeman McNeil, Wesley Walker, even Richard Todd could complete passes to his players rather then the opposing linebackers. Rains came in the week, the field was unprotected and the Dolphins with two lousy QBs (Woodley and Strock) won. What gets left out of this “Mud Bowl” victory is the Dolphins won both regular season games. After the game Jets coach Walt Michaels was fired for reasons never made quite clear (he probably had a drinking problem. his mother was also sick) and Joe Walton brought in a 15 year period of bad coaches as “Head of the Jets family” (As Leon Hess said when he hired “dem and dose” Richie Kotitte (think Art Howe saying “we fought hard, we almost won” instead of “we battled”).
Mota must be released

More precisely, that Jet squad was built upon fleet of foot dancers like Wesley Walker and Freeman McNeil, who would depend on a stable ground surface to make their cuts. In contrast, the Dolphin running game was built around a fullback with a low center of gravity (Andra Franklin?) who would be largely unaffected by a muddy terrain. It’s clear which team benefited from the lack of a tarp.

Dan: I’m no Dolphin’s fan, but what do you have against Don Shula?
