John-The timing on Lastings dropping his appeal is curious. Is there any insight as to why now? I am assuming there is some logic to this, but it’s Lastings so you never know…

JB, my guess is that he was just holding out so Greenie could get the night off last night instead of using Chavez, Gomez, Anderson, or Conine to start since their value is off the bench.
Yeah and with Delgado back and a righty going tonight Milledge probaby wouldn’t be in the lineup anyway, and having Gomez on the bench now diminishes Milledge’s late inning defense/running. All you really lose is your #2 righty PH for tonight. It hurts them a bit Sunday and Monday facing lefties, but you’ll still have Lastings back for whatever final push you have to make. Even if things go perfectly for the Mets (which we all know they won’t), Lastings would be available for a potential clincher.
My question is, should Anderson drop his appeal tomorrow so he can do the same? Its less significant for him that the SP are both lefties for tomorrow and Monday as he’s most likely to face a reliever. But I’d imagine that if the Mets win tonight, they have to consider telling Marlon to drop his appeal so he might be available at the earliest possible point the Mets might be on the verge of clinching.
Milledge’s timing is that he wants to get this over as soon as he can to be available at the end of next week, when the division could be decided. Also, the Mets don’t want to have two guys suspended at the same time (Anderson being the other).-JD
