Mets in the Afternoon

We don’t know about Billy Wagner’s availability if he can’t close tonight. I’m guessing Aaron Heilman, which probably doesn’t give you much confidence.
I hate to sound like a broken record on this (Records? A long time ago, there were these things called records that people used to listen to music on … ), but if the Mets made the effort earlier in the month to see what Mike Pelfrey could do out of the pen, at least they’d have some safety net. Or, if nothing else, an answer.
-Maybe Carlos Delgado tonight. That’s what he’s hoping.
-Expect a suspension for Lastings Milledge for last night’s outburst. The worst part of the incident is not that he was tossed, but let the umps under his skin. He was still burning from the first pitch, not to mention an earlier play.

I missed the game. but heard something like he got hit or plunked at again. did it lose his cool over that?????
I dont get it these last few games all of our players got hit and got no good call on them. unreal.
I guess Chavez can pick up the slack for him… JD: where was willie when this happened?
Delgado should sit out the rest of the year. we dont need him ;-]
Geez i miss one game , what happened with Wagner?
Willis threw a ball that obviously got away from him and it went behind Milledge. But he made a beautiful push bunt that he was called out on because the ump said he was tagged on the leg by Jacobs (I think) You really couldnt tell from the replay though.
Steve C,
Wagner had back spasms and couldn’t pitch in the 9th.
JD,
I agree with you about Pelfrey. By the way, I heard the Mets brought up Carlos Muniz from Binghamton. Any chance Willie uses him?
Thanx Pete.
Peter H: I was going to ask JD the same question about Muniz. Hopefully that means the Mets will DFA one of our favorites..like Sele or Mota.
Thanx steve.
you know we’ve had so many damned bad calls lately.
JD: IF the Mets make the playoffs, then I bet Pelfrey becomes the long man in the pen, no matter what Willie has said in the past.
steve: I can see that.
Willie needs to shake it up a bit, change the lineup..something just to change the Karma….I also would like to see Humber come out of the pen, and let’s face it, Humber should have gotten that start they gave to Lawrence….
I also believe that we are seeing the negative influence Rickey Henderson is having on Jose Reyes….He has taken a turn for the worse since Rickey was named 1st base coach…now he does not even run out fly balls?? Thanks Omar, but this guy is and has always been a cancer….
Will be a long cold winter if they don’t make the post season…........Yankees fans are gonna fry us…....
Believe….........
I think this callup shows that somebody, Either Omar or maybe even Wilpon has decided its time to step in and force some changes. IM HOPING!! Its broke, fix it!!!
FYI – for those in the WFAN listening area or streaming audio on WFAN.com, Omar Minaya will be interviewed by Mike and Chris at 3:15 PM this afternoon.
Not real pleased with Rickey Henderson. We were waiting to talk with Milledge last night, and Henderson calls out from across the room, ``Leave him alone, he’s not talking to night.’’
I didn’t move. I said, ``Let him tell me that.’’ Milledge did, but I’m certainly not going to back away from Henderson, who, you’re right, hasn’t brought anything to the table except a deck of cards.-JD
Just asking: If Muniz were the answer, wouldn’t he have been up here by now?-JD
JD: Can’t say i’m shocked. It probably confirms what I said about Reyes last week that Henderson is probably one of the big reasons for his lazy play.
JD: Did the Mets DFA anyone because of the Muniz callup?
John,
Ricky has to be gone from that clubhouse yesterday. About the callup, See my last comment. I think somebody upstairs is getting involved here.
it was rude of henderson, but it was best for lastings not to talk last night. the kid is still not savvy with the media. didn’t franco do the same thing last year?
JD,
i’m guessing that all the reporters knew that franco was a bit of a cancer this year. why didn’t it ever come out from the media? fans had the impression that he was a team leader and class guy…later, we learn he was second guessing willie and was a pain in the clubhouse. is it an unwritten rule of the reporters?
are we going to hear the real reason the team fell apart in someone’s book in a few years?
As far as Wagner goes, you can’t control injuries. Especially back spasms. I think Heilman can do a good job as a closer for the short term.
Milledge – I’m not surprised he went nuts last night. Yes Willis did throw a pitch that got away, but he also plunked him with another one. One of the other relievers came close to hitting him also. The first pitch of his last at bat was a foot off the plate. I guess he swung at the next pitch because he knew the moron behind the plate would have called it a strike anyway. I think over all Milledge has kept his cool pretty well. He’s been hit way too often, ON PURPOSE, this season. He was bound to lose his cool.
As far as the play at 1st on his bunt…Jacobs missed that tag by at least a foot. One replay had a great angle of the play. The umpire however was behind Jacobs, so I can see that , MAYBE, from his agnle he thought the tag was applied.
FYI = Minaya re-scheduled to 4PM
Joan: To be techincal its really 4:05 due to the 20/20 flash. ;-)
To iMets: Franco did the same thing last year and I talked to him about it and length. Just made the comment to Henderson. No sense talking to Rickey. Honestly, I’m not sure he can name the Mets’ starting line-up.-JD
Steve, Sorry – and it’s really technical. :)
John – How about a third option in the poll like:
“I don’t know, or Maybe”
The Mets have not announced the roster move to make room for Muniz.-JD
Joan: What do you expect Minaya to say? He’s going to support his team, manager, etc.
NO explanation will be given for why Humber is in the bullpen but only sitting there….
These interviews are a waste. They don’t reveal their hand to anyone outside of their inner circle.
Honestly, I don’t blame them. This isn’t some fan owned team with the right to know….but even though I understand the lack of real communication from GMs etc, I still want to understand what purpose Humber serves in being with the big club. Experience? Sitting doesn’t prepare a player for playing…lol.
Nice digs at Rickey there John. That attitude is sure to get him to talk to you.
Considering the crap Milledge has been through with the media, and the mood he was in last night, it was wise of him not to talk to the press.
If he speaks, and bashes the umps, he is only going to make the situation worse.
Did Rickey handle it diplomatically, I wasn’t there, perhaps not. Or perhaps you are just touchy about the issue. You are the only one who made a point of mentioning that he said something about Lastings not talking. No other paper mentioned it, all that was written was that Lastings said he didn’t want to talk.
Odd that a lot of credit was given to Rickey for his work with Reyes in ST, yet now he is a bad influence?
Joan: No can do. This is no time of the year to sit on the fence. You either believe or you don’t.-JD
They are going to win this thing.
I never stop believing.
because there’s always next year!
:-)
John, OK, in the tradition of Tug McGraw, I voted Yes.
Hey Steve C, check this out according to Rotoworld!!!
” Carlos Delgado (hip) had an encouraging batting practice session Thursday and is likely to start Friday’s game.
Delgado put his spikes on late in Thursday’s game in case he was needed, though the Mets didn’t want to use him.”
Woohoo!!! Can I change my vote now to Yes??? :-)
L...
i rather see green. you do know 3 is the charm if he plays full on he may reinjury and that will be his swan song. well headed home.
have fun/..
Steve C: It’s not easy being Green. ;-) He wouldn’t have played today anyway. It’s good that Delgado will be back believe me. No matter when he comes back, he can injure it again, so I wouldn’t worry. If it happens, it happens.
