What do you want me to say? That all is well? It’s not.
Yeah, they are in first, but they aren’t playing like it. It’s been this way all season. Hot, then cold. Now it’s cold. Can they snap out of it? Sure. Will they? I still believe they can hold off Philly, but I can’t be as sure as I was over a week ago.
That leads me to a new poll: Will they hang on?
The bottom line is championship caliber teams don’t blow two leads of three runs in a game in late September. First Tom Glavine; then the bullpen.
Of course, they had enough opportunities to put the game away. Like the pen, situational hitting as been a problem all year.
Blame Willie Randolph if you want, and he deserves some blame. But, mostly it’s the guys who are paid to play. They aren’t cutting it.
The analysis is simple: Either play like a champion or go home. There will be no solutions that fall from the sky. None.
