Welcome back to Mets Chat Room.
We’ve had a lot of great talk on the blog already and first pitch is still about a half-hour away.
A lot on the table. There’s the playoff bullpen composition. Jose Reyes’ funk. Their inability to beat the Phillies.
Tonight we have Brian Lawrence going, which has not been a popular decision. We can talk about that and anything else with the game. Looking forward to it.

This from Matt Cerrone’s Metsblog:
During tonight’s game, Mets GM Omar Minaya told reporters that Orlando Hernandez has been examined by a doctor, and that he’ll begin wearing a boot to relieve pressure and pain to his sore foot, which he uses to push off the pitcher’s mound when throwing.
According to Minaya, though El Duque may be able to keep running, and will only wear the boot on occasion, he continues to be listed as day-to-day.
Ah, here come our 1998 mets. You know, the ones that had the playoff spot wrapped up..but didn’t. This team is the most Jekyl Hyde group I’ve seen in a long time.
As for the game. We suck. We deserve to lose. We deserve to miss the playoffs. Simple as that. The only way we win the division is if the Phillies stink it up just as badly over the last 14 games or whatever it is.
To Jeff: I talked with Duque. He said, ``see you tomorrow,’’ but he didn’t look very happy. Willie Randolph said the boot is to relieve pain and pressure. Which means, of course, he has pain and pressure, which means we’re not going to see him soon.-JD
JD: If he’s too young then why bring him up? To sit and watch?
Who’s running the show? It’s scary.
Sosa is too overworked….Billy Smith needs more time in the minors.
Schoenweiss should only have pitched to the one batter and then I would have put Humber in the game.
Sele is finished…..I’m sure he’s a nice guy but not much of a pitcher anymore.
The Giants are 0-2 and now the Mets are starting to fall apart at the seams.
We might have seen El Duque in a Mets uniform for the last time. Not sure I would spend more money on a guy who can’t make it through the whole season.
JD: No matter what, I’m still going with my father to the Mets/Marlins game on Thursday. Last chance to see them this year.
John tks for all the great work. My magic 8 ball says we will next see Duqe on the mound in Feb 2008 in Port St Lucie.
To everyone out there lets hope tomorrow ( tues ) is a better day.
Scott: Like I said, would we pay again for a guy who can’t get through a whole season? I hope not…..
Ironic that if we do make the playoffs, he might not be able to pitch – just like last year.
When it rains, it pours, n’est pas?
Jeff: I heard the other night the Marlins crowd was anounced at about 10,000 but the real crowd as counted by the sportswriters from the press box was about 375. Is this true ?
el duque has a guaranteed contract for next year for $6.5m with performance bonuses
performance bonuses: $0.225M each for 150, 160, 170, 180 & 190 IP
perks: suite on road
SI.com is reporting Omar said Duque has a bunion on his foot.. and the boot is to relieve the pressure on it.
I dunno how long a bunion takes to heal? Anyone?
Oh good, I’m not the only one with a blacked out SNY on Directv? I thought I was going crazy over here. (I’m in Arizona) This better be fixed by tomorrow or I’m going to get very cranky.
Mets better be fixed by tomorrow too… Man, it’s been ugly lately. When they got out to a 4-run lead today I was hopeful, but it was pretty much a downward spiral of suckitude after that…
To use an old cold war cliche: getting an honest answer out of the Mets is harder than getting one out of the Kremlin.
I suggest you folks with the blacked out DTV call them up and tell them you will hold off paying the bill until they get it fixed ;-)
Back in the hotel watching SportsCenter before calling it a night.
Can’t believe the Phillies game. Yeah, they have some karma working. The Mets don’t.
Wright said tonight the Mets are pressing. He’s right. You have to be blind not to see it.
The Phillies expect to win and the Mets keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.-JD
The wheels are turning but nobody’s driving? Who’s in charge?
They did so well this season, everything became routine. Now they have the rude awakening that you must always play hard.
I cant believe all the booted balls. and the mis-throw by SOSA?! How loud did DiFilipe have to yell for him to realize he had to throw home?
I was so aggravated. oh and to steve: looks to me that Green did all right at first. that catch he made-delgado would have never caught. plus he hit a homer. ;-]
Bringing in Connine seems a mistake. taking LoDuca out was dumb. Not sure why this was all done, but i aint the manager. there must have been a method to the madness. Now think, if the bullpen wasnt used every day. and pitchers pitched all the way through when they are hot. The bullpen wouldnt be as toasted as they appear.
sigh
It appears that Willie Randolph’s managing has been scratching a lot of heads this year and after seeing how flat the Mets looked last night you start to wonder if this is Randolph’s fault the way this team is playing. I don’t see Omar firing Randolph so Omar better do a better job in the off season with this club or next year will be even worse.
Bunions don’t heal. They need surgery.
LOL…We are now the New York Cardinals instead of the NY Mets. And you do know what happened to the Cardinals last year, right? ;-)
El Duque is gone for the rest of the year IMO and at least the NLDS (If there is one.) I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV. :-)
I don’t think we’ve lost. It aint over until its over or the fat lady sings. So we just cant have a fat lady sing the national anthem. thats why we lost the other year.
Also I see the base running has 2 diametrically opposed coaches. 1st base you have steal it at will Rickey. At third you have hold your horses Alomar.
There needs to be a meeting of the minds. With the rabbits we have on the team. there were a few singles we should have had a run in if alomar didnt put the breaks on.
Oh well, its good to armchair manager. But we dont have the inside scoop on whats happening in the clubhouse. That’s JD’s job yet we havent had anything real nitty gritty from him ;-p
Steve C: Of course the Mets haven’t lost. We’re still 3 games up for goodness sake and these are still the Washington Nationals and Florida Marlins that the Mets need to take care of business against. They will do it. I just wish it would be ALOT more prettier.
The Mets have never had a pretty win. ever.
it was always tooth and nail. even in 86.
Thats why we love them!
Scott: Yes it’s true. The Cyclones draw more than the Marlins. Seriously!
The National League uses paid attendance not turnstile numbers to determine a crowd’s numbers. I’m sure they sold 10,000 tickets but only a few hundred showed up.
When the Mets are in town, the stadium will be a bit more full…and the Let’s Go Mets Cheers will resound!
