Hope you all enjoyed your day off from Mets watching. My movie was “3:10 to Yuma,’’ which I recommend. Good westerns are still a “must see’’ for me.
Dinner was lobster. Every once in awhile you have to treat yourself.
In addition to separation, here’s another reason why this series is important for the Mets – to knock the Phillies out of the wild card.
The Mets don’t want any part of the Phillies in a postseason series. “We know they are a very dangerous team,’’ David Wright said.

Speaking of Yuma, why are the Mets the only team not to have selected any players for the AFL, at this point? Or is it just a state secret?
I thought Yuma was a lousy picture. Very little plot, a foolish ending and poor acting. John, maybe you’re a forgiving type. I hope you are more criticl in your discussion of the Mets’ weaknesses.
Yuma is a remake….
I agree we want to be on the only team from the NL East in the playoffs.
I watched some of the Phillies/Rockies game yesterday and when the opened the only stat they showed was for the wildcard…so I wonder if they have given up on catching the Mets for the NL East crown?
Though their TV crew highlighted the obvious wildcard race, until the Mets get that champagne bath, nothing is over yet.
Yeah. The Phils are a dangerous team for us.
What’s his name owns Wagner…
I’m not sure I like the Padres versus the Mets in the playoffs either, especially in a short series given their pitching. I suppose we could hope that Colorado makes a push.
No worries. The Phillies will not be playing in the post season. It’ll be either the SD Padres or the AZ Diamondbacks for the WC.
Call me a Met fan, but i’m not that crazy about any 1st round matchup. LOL.
Yeah, if the Phils make it we would probably play the winner of the week NL Central. That doesn’t scare me as much as Peavy and Young in the 1st round.
you guys are nervous wrecks.
The Padres? The Phillies? Those are not teams to be scared of. But of course the Phillies aren’t going to make the playoffs, I have a hard to believing/seeing them there, they’re just not good enough…
As for the Padres, the Mets have been able to get through to Peavy and Chris Young. And then thier offense? Pretty bad.
The Mets have the most complete team in the NL and besides the Padres could only have Peavy pitch so many times and on short rest? He’s not very good. the rest of the Padres rotation is Chris Young, Greg Maddux, and Justin Germano.
It’s not the 90’s anymore and Maddux can and has been beaten. And Justin Germano just isn’t any good.
Stop being soo pessimistic! Heck, it might even be time to get realistic here. There’s nothing wrong with believing the Mets are the best team in the NL and having confidense in them winning.
Remember last year when for WHATEVER reason, people thought the Mets could/would be beaten by the Dodgers? C’mon now…
The Mets have the best record in the NL as we did last year. Last year we were better.
Last year we won our third ring. No wait we didn’t..
I was much more confident with last years team than this years team. I think the NL is pretty much on equal ground due to the questionable Met bullpen. That is the major difference between this year and last.
Ummm. Lobster. One of the best foods in the world. Boiled or Broiled with drawn butter … now that’s heaven. Where did you get yours, John?
JK: Boiled. With steamers, corn and red potatoes. A step up from pizza…. Mine was at a cookout with friends in CT. A very nice time. I need to do more of that.-JD
As far as playoff match-ups go, San Diego has good pitching and that’s always dangerous in a short series.-JD
I’d be worried a lot more about the Padres in a playoff than the Phillies.
The Phillies got a lot of guys who can hit 800 home runs a week in Citizen’s Bandbox and little else.
The Padres if they have four starters all bring their A-game four nights in a row… they win, you lose.
JD: Steamers are also terrific with butter. You’re doing some mighty fine eating lately—lobster, steamers, and fried twinkies!
To JK: Did the lobster w/out the butter. Trying to make up for the fried Twinkies.-JD
OK – remember the pizza dialogue? Old friend (golf pro) in town for a few days, so guess where we went – out for pizza. Guess we were all hungry on the ‘day off’.
