Welcome back to Mets Chat Room.
There’s a lot to talk about, beginning with the importance of this start for John Maine. … Tom Glavine remains on the fence about his future. … What should the composition of the Mets’ playoff roster.
And, of course, there’s always the game to comment on. Looking forward to talking with you throughout the night. Thanks.

Don’t worry Feliciano if you don’t get this hitter Mota comes on.. How does that make you feel?
Oh no! Leaave Feliciano in for Francoeur! NOOOO!
Good luck Mota!
Like I said…
I would boo Feliciano, Willie, and Mota for this one.
This is the end of Mota book it.. we’ve all called for his head, but this is the final straw..
he has been horrible, and i’d be extremely surprised and pissed if he isn’t released or put in Sele mop up roll..
ughh our own crows is booin mota for a 1st to 3rd fake thats rough
I hate Mota even more than I hated Whitey Herzog 20 years ago. If he was drowning, I would throw him a lifesaver but I would feel bad about it.
Why couldn’t Duaner Sanchez have ordered room service??
New Rule, if your at a Met game and Mota enters the game it’s no more boo’ing him, get a You Suck chant going on..
If Wagner saves the 9th inning, The Official Scorer should not give the win to Mota..
I guess they are pretty much. The rule allows them not to give a win for “Brief but ineffective” but he did get the third out
and kept the game tied. But I would like to see more latitude in deciding who deserves the win..Maine deserves it more.
A couple of things. One, from the beginning I have been a Shawn Green supporter. I think you see why tonight. Both glove and bat. I know I have been in the minority here.
Two, I have never trusted Mota. There are too many cases as to why. But, I have been in the majority here.-JD
It’s in the books – Wagner gets his 36th save.
me no thinks thats really john lol
Eddie Coleman says it’s in the books——Wagner gets his 34th save . Magic number is 11
I checked the box score and they gave the win to Mota.
What a joke the man gets credit for a blown save and a win.
The offical scorer needs to have more latitude with giving credit for the win.
The important thing is the Mets won and the Braves and Phillies lost moving one step closer to elimination. I don’t fear any NL team in the postseason but the Braves and Phillies would give us the strongest challenge.
...and why the hell was Mota throwin to 1B with the go ahead run on third. (and they were almost wild throws to boot!). What a bum. Dump his ass before he hurts the team more than what he already has.
As much as I don’t think Mota has any business on the playoff roster – even now when we’re still not technically in the playoffs – I don’t think booing your own players is right. It just isn’t. No matter what, all of these guys try. If they don’t succeed, that doesn’t justify being booed.
No one will convince me otherwise. To the blogger who wrote we should say, you suck….GROW UP….
SpiderPig: I’m pretty sure Green will sit out next week Friday night for Yom Kippur. Sandy Koufax didn’t pitch on Yom Kippur. It’s the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.
Dan: I have a lot of respect for San Diego….they’re pitching staff/starting is more than formidable in a short series.
I don’t mind booing as long as no obscenities or racial/religious stuff is involved. I don’t boo Mets myself. But with Mota it is easy to understand why the boos because he is a cheater. An inept one that got caught too.
Dan: Mota is an interesting case. On one hand, I know he doesn’t screw up on purpose. On the other, he’s horrible. If I had other hands I’d point to the fact he was a cheater. I’m sure his mother likes him, but I don’t. And, that he’ll be around for another year is maddening.-JD
Jeff: We shouldn’t underrate any team in the playoffs. Remember 1988 when the Mets (100 wins) lost to the Dodgers (88 wins) in a season where the Mets beat the Dodgers 11 out of 12 times. But San Diego has Mike Cameron batting in the heart of the order. They may be a smaller market version of the Atlanta Braves glory run:make the playoffs quite often due to lots of pitching, lose in October due to no Mr Octobers in the lineup. But no versions here of Mike Francesa last year “I can not see the Tigers beating the Yankees”.
John: Ancient Roman historians tell else in the 2nd Century BC Cato the Elder was concerned about Carthage rebuilding after the 2nd Punic War. He would finish any speech he gave in the Senate on any subject with the phrase “Carthago est Delanda”..Carthage must be destroyed. Time for such a phrase in my posts.
Mota must be released!
Mota gets the win last night. Give me a break. There has to be more discretion for the official scorer in that case. Blow a lead and get a win is wrong. If anyone should get the win in that case it should be Wagner. Here is a radical thought. Allow half wins. In this case I would give Maine a half win. I would also have something called Team win. Give the other half there. If half wins won’t fly, give the whole wint to the Team column.
For all those Willie haters out there. Just read he is in consideration for manager of the year.
I don’t see why when he says this: “I’m going to keep going to [Mota]. He’s got some of the best stuff in our bullpen.” Yeah, and I’m the president.
Also, Maine did apparently leave with a blister on his middle finger, but his pitch count was high anyway.
JD- Future pitching questions: Do you see the Mets extending pedro for the 09 season in the new ballpark? Do you see them going hard after Johan Santana after 08(particularly with the naming money from Citibank)? and do you see either Maine or Pelfrey as a possible future closer?
Spider: Any decent manager is going to support his players publicly. What should Willie say? Would you prefer—“Well I know Mota isn’t the same without his steroids but he’s on the roster making millions of dollars and so we have to see if he can be of any use to us?” That will do great things for Mota’s confidence. I’m sure Omar and the owners would be thrilled with that answer too.
To JK: What you’ve written is the translation for ManagerSpeak. We heard what Willie said; we can guess what he really thinks. I like your translation.-JD
