Damion Easley stopped by the clubhouse. Doctors told him he completely tore three ligaments in his left ankle.
He said surgery is not needed and could resume workouts in December and wants to play another year.
“It is hard to end a career, let alone a season, like that,” Easley said.

I liked Easley, he contributed alot to the team in his backup role. I wish him well and wouldn’t mind having him back next year as a bench player if he can recover fully.
Second that thought….
Yeah, tough break for the dude.
His health and age exposed him a bit when he was forced into being a starter?
But he was a hell of a solid dude to have off the bench, to pinch-hit, to take the occasional game here or there at second or first or third or one of the outfield corners.
Great bench piece.
Easley’s age had no more to do with his injury than Gomez’ injury, Milledge’s injury or Perez’ injury. Will you get off the age bigotry for one night. Thank you….. And he didn’t play third. Wonder why Glavine didn’t get hurt. I guess it was his youth….
No, Easley’s age had nothing to do with his injury.
It DID have something to do with his stamina where when he HAS healthy and he was asked to be a day-in day-out starting second baseman, his offense performance began to drop off.
His injury was just an injury.
His age, however, is why he was a great bench player and not a viable longterm starting position player.
And why if he’s 100% next spring, I’d take him back as a bench piece, definitely.
A healthy Easley, a relatively healthy Castro, a healthy Chavez, Marlon Anderson and then whoever of Castillo/Gotay doesn’t get the starting position?
That’s a solid-ass and relatively multiskilled five-man bench.
I want Easley back. He was a substantial contributor when he played. He was the ideal bench piece and is somebody, health willing, they should bring back.-JD
Easley was never really an everyday starting second baseman, at least not on this team.
Question for Mike C:
Are you in third grade or is that the highest level of education you attained? You don’t even realize you contradict yourself. You know this blog was great last night during the game.
Lay off Mike C. Nobody can match his brilliance. You’ll be overwhemlmed by his aptitude and his ability to destroy the English language. All of my bros, even the illegals, can’t do English the injustice he does every post.
The serious answer is that my highest level of education is a magna cum laude bachelors of science in Writing for Television Radio and Film from the SI Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University with a minor in comparative religion.
The joking answer is “me fail English? that’s unpossible!”
Now that was funny!!!!! If what you say is true Syracuse should be shut down…... I had respect for the Orange until 6:43 pm…..
I like Easley off the bench again next year if he’s healthy….heck yeah!
Goodbye to Valentin…please go away. :-)
Valentin would be a lefty off the bench and Easley a righty. They wouldn’t conflict with each other except for the redundancy of positions they would back-up. But they should keep Anderson as the lefty off the bench. Give him his 2 years please Omar…..
Valentin is interesting. I didn’t like him at first but he played his way into a starter last year and did very well. We now have Castillo who is an upgrade on an injured player. I think he is a starter which he would not be on this team. Esp coming off an injury.
So I think for various reasons he will not be back next year which in some ways is sad because he was a big part of this team. On the other hand he only has a few years left in the game and will not get the playing time he deserves.
I was very surprised at what the doctors said to him. Four years ago at age 38 I complete tore 2 ligaments in my ankle. I was on crutches (weight bearing) for 20 months and had PT in an effort to avoid surgergy, which I ultimately had. The drs. told me that if I was an athlete, I would have had to have reconstructive ankle surgery. Torn lignaments cause you to have permanent sprains in your ankle. I wish him the best.
