Welcome back to Mets Chat Room.
Your team is getting in better position for the playoffs every day now.
There still are some concerns, which you guys have never been shy about expressing.
Talk about them and the game.
assuming the Mets win at least one this WE, and Philly loses 1, that pretty much makes the next series a must sweep for the Phillies. And even though this has been a strange year, I just can’t see the Phils sweeping 3 series against the Mets (2 at Shea).
Although how odd would it be if they did sweep 3 times, and still finished in 2nd place?
The magic number really does come into play now. Ever 2-3 game win streak from the Mets or 2-3 loses in a row for Philly are another nail in the coffin.
Even taking 1 of 3 against them next week still knocks 2 games off the magic number, and the season will be getting real short at that point.
Now, just take every series, and get ready for the PS!
JR – Just heard Omar talking with Eddie Coleman on WFAN – says he takes the games one at a time – would only talk about today’s game—especially looking forward to seeing Lasting Milledge and his speed.
Hi Joan. Omar said the same thing last night on TV. One game at a time. No talk of post season roster until they clinch a spot. He raved about Gomez last night, hoping for the day Reyes/Gomez bats 1-2 in the line up!
JD-With El Duque back probably on Tuesday or Wednesday, is Pelfrey pretty much done now? Does Willie plan on resting any of the other starters?
Mel – I don’t get SNY – Cox Cable won’t provide it and ESPN, FOX, TBS etc. are always blacked out. CW11 will carry the telecast maybe once/twice a month. So, I spend my Mets evenings with Tom and Howie on WFAN radio and John’s blog. I can watch the Yankees on YES and the Red Sox on NESN though if I wish. I understand that Blackouts and cable carriage areas are in violation of the Interstate Commerce agreement and subpeonas have already been sent out for the sports networks and the cable execs to appear before a Senate Committee this fall headed by Senator Arlen Spector.
This “actually kinda healthy” LoDuca? I like him a lot more. haha.
Green bothers me a lot less at first… he’s merely a below-average firstbaseman defensively as opposed to a butcher of a corner outfielder and… if Green’s playin’ first, Willie can’t use him as an excuse to hold Milledge back.
Collazo’s been unsteady but acceptable and I wanna see more of him. He can’t be as bad as Mota Sele or Schoeneweis, he just can’t and I want Willie and Omar to accept that in case there are playoffs.
Check the line score….......
Glavine out in the 8th….Come on Aaron!
a nice game Tom. now don’t blow it bullpen
Great inning for Heilman. Gives up a soft single and then strikes out the side. I have to watch on the computer so it’s frustrating.
I know Randolph will put Wagner in the 9th but I wish he would go with Pedro F. Little confidence in billy right now.
It’s in the books—- Happy ReCap time.
You know that Pedro was the one who figured out Billy’s mechanical problem and gave that one to Paul just to be nice. haha.
If we can go two out of three the rest of way, we should easily get home field advantage throughout the NL Playoffs. It looks like the Mets are starting to come out of their funk just in time for September….October.
Tom notches another one. Hopefully Ollie and Maine study how the vets do it and find something to get them back on track.
Wow, small chat room today. Everybody must be out, watching college football, whatever.
Jeff, you said the whole afternoon is blacked out because of FOX? What is the point of that? I thought that was a reason for FOX putting their games on at 3:55. I can’t understand why the two of the three major sports I like are run by morons. I bet you can guess the other.
Joan – I thought the territory for the Red Sox ended where the NY teams started in CT. That is very strange. Also, it doesn’t make any sense that the FOX games are blacked out (the ESPN Sunday ones shouldn’t be either) because they aren’t carried on SNY. If that is the case, you should definitely complain to the cable company. CW11 carries Mets games about four times per month; it was double that before SNY came about. I suppose you do get to see the games when the Mets play the Yankees or Red Sox.
I wish you would have called me directly instead of spewing your brilliance on this blog. Now that I know from you how to set a bullpen I’ll make Collazo my set up man and we’ll go with a two man pen. God if I would have had your brains I would have saved the Expos. Thank you so much Thank you thank you. And I’ll tell Willie right away never to put Greeny in right field because you taught me hoe much he sucks there. Matter of fact we’re both resigning tonite and you got both jobs cause you’re so freakin smart//
It’s not that Collazo’s anywhere near being a set-up man on a contending team, Pseudomar. It’s that Schmotele have proven themselves completely terrible.
The top four short relievers on the Mets are clearly Wags Heilman Feliciano and Souser… you obfuscate the debate by pretendin’ I’m saying something I ain’t saying.
But pretty much any competent major league reliever is going to pitch better than Schoeneweis, Mota and Sele have so why the hell not roll the dice on Someone Else in those last few slots in the pen.
Green is not completely terrible, either, that’s not the point.
It’s that he isn’t good enough over the course of the remaining games of the season and whatever post-season there may or may not be to excuse playing him over Milledge in right field.
If Delgado is injured, lets face it, Green’s gonna play a better defensive firstbase than Delgado, hit for better OBP and run faster… the power numbers, if healthy, are the difference.
It’s not that I think I’m all that and a bag of Salsa Verde Doritos, Pseudomar, I’m just saying… when you’re in a playoff run, you have to divest yourself of all the sentimentialities and other irrational approaches to line-up management.
How much a guy makes, how nice a dude he is, how well he did five years ago or in one or two “key” games here or there, how much seniority he has.
It’s all meaningless in the face of how is a guy is doing now and projects to do in the near-future.
Nearly any major league reliever can do at least slightly better than the back-end of this bullpen has done. Happily, the starting pitching and the hitting have generally been good enough to wipe that out.
In a seven-game series, the back-end of your bullpen blowing up in two games and your season is done.
Green puts up a 1-4 with a single and an error instead of Milledge’s 2-4 with a double and an outfield assist, that could be one game lost or won.
That’s all, Pseudo.
Can’t be sentimental and can’t make the choice that the papers would criticize less if it fails instead of making the choice with the actual better chance of winning the game.
You play. To win. The game.
That’s why your the new GM, but before I leave the scene just remember you call your own players stupid names you will find payback time.
Seriously, maybe some of your posts would have credibility if you wouldn’t spend so much time making up ignorant obnoxious names for your own players. Fans like you can’t SUCK enough. Root for the Yankees they’ll take any jerk.
I root for my TEAM, man, not just the laundry on a few guys no one else was gonna sign.
The backend of the bullpen on the Mets has been their biggest weakness all season and… if they suck and if they’re the primary reason the division isn’t wrapped up yet…
I’m not supposed to get on them?
Loyalty’s great, Pseudomar, but blind loyalty’s worse than none at all. Current world events reflect that better than anything in sports even elucidate that point.
No you don’t root for your team. Rooting for your team is developing fair criticism, not name calling, horrific remarks about the manager etc. You are what makes sports fans look bad. You should be put on a pedestal for being disgusting. Maybe when you go to work you would like it if people who don’t like the quality of your work they post stuff like Mike C I mean Mike the Dike…. Bye Mike the Dike…. You made anti Hispanic remarks and anti woman remarks too this year. You think you are cute, but you are an evil spiteful little little humanoid who wastes oxygen.
Wow, Pseudomar, I don’t get you.
Making up the idea that I said racist or sexist things to try to buffer your points? Weird wild stuff.
If you’re going to stand up for a completely ridiculous and outmoded way of enjoying sports… cheering on players on the team you root for even when their performance is consistently making winning harder and the manager refuses to pull them from the games…
Essentially putting an outmoded vision of loyalty ahead of enjoying the game or wanting your team to win?
Totally your thing.
But positing an alternate reality through made-up smears?
What’s your agenda?
I’m some dude on the internet, you’re some… presumable a dude… on the internet hiding behind a second layer of internet handle…
Trying to smear someone with lies of racism and sexism to deflect a debate about a sport amoungst a community of faceless strangers?
I’m fascinated at where one gets to that point, where it’s considered a valid use of one’s time and mental energy.
Only facts little boy Mike C. did you forget the time you wanted the Mets to only go after Americans in July? Do you remember the time you talked about in your home town families giving their daughters to the minor league playrs for sex and everyone was happy. Now that your memory has been restored, Deny it like most of your kind do when caught and reminded.
Omar Chill please
Mike C Act more adult-like so this doesn’t keep happening please.
