Welcome back to Mets Chat Room.
OK, who thought the Mets would be playing today to avoid a sweep? Your thoughts on Oliver Perez. The play. Whatever is on your mind, and, of course, the game. Talk with you throughout the day.
GameCast is all screwy. What happened after the Endy single to score another run?
Great inning, unfortunately getting 6 outs seems like 60 right now.
Loudest boos I ever heard at Shea was the night Rocker returned. Face it, Mets fans could never boo one of their own – even Rojas, Looper, Benitez, Mota, Bonilla, etc. – like they did that jackass.
More insurance please.
Reyes stole 3rd and the throw ended up in left field… that’s when my gamecast died.
GameCast folks—Reyes stole, throw got away, scored, Endy to 2nd. Beltran walked. Delgado grounded out, only play to first, run scored. Then a flyout to right.
So Green bookended that inning with 2 of the 3 outs? So much for making a case to reclaim his starting position.
It’ll be Wagner in the eighth, followed by Mota in the ninth.
Mark it on your calendars—August 30th, 2007, the day Willie Randolph managed a must-win game like a must-win game.
Milledge pinching in the 4th and Wagner coming in the 8th. I think he finally gets it.
This game has gone to a 24 on a scale of 1-10.
Frankly, I couldn’t take much more of it about 2 hours ago.
Billy’s got to bear down now and get the job done.
Just get Howard and Rowand and we can still win this.
imagine what a series this would of been if that call hadn’t gone against the Mets last night.
But it did, Justin.
Let it go.
It was the correct call, anyway.
Werth, Ruiz and Nunez.
COME ON, BILLY!
YOU CAN DO THIS!
What is it about Billy Wagner and 1-2 counts?
I’d love to know what hitters are hitting against him with that count.
No TRAFFIC JAMS!!!!
So I come home and instead of checking the score I check this sight and your comments and I know whats going on. You boys are funny!!! And the boys that count got a lot better… good for them…
Hi BH: Do you really think Willie just started getting it?? He looks pretty serious in that dugout to me all the time. I think he gets it all the time.
Someone pass the Maalox.
Jess, I think Willie is a terrible Manager who has gotten by on some lucky “gut” calls, and a talented team.
Billy is no longer allowed to talk about the team needing to step up. Ever.
This is only Billy’s fault. Willie made the right move to go to him in the 8th. I’m surprised he is still in there for Utley though He’s gotta be at 35 pitches already.
Gonna ride Wagner till he loses the game now?
Where was Feliciano for Utley’s AB? I thought for sure Wagner was done. This is ugly!
WOW i am no longer a mets fan lol. this is terrible
That folks, was the season right there.
The turning point.
We will not win the division, or the Wild Card.
Please leave Wagner in Philadelphia.
Holy brutal losses Batman!!!!!
So, where are we on the Lo Duca versus DiFelice debate?
Does Fred Wilpon know that his manager is Marty Schottenheimer, not Bill Belichick? Herm Edwards, not Bill Parcells?
Benny, you’re kidding me right? You’re gonna blame the SB’s on LoDuca???? Learn something about the game please. Sheesh.
Gil: You DO realize that the Mets are in first place, not the Phills or the Braves. I know the Mets weren’t impressive at all, but were the Phills?
Willie Randolph: Square peg/Round Hole…never works. Wagner has not been able to go two innings for a save in 8 EIGHT years.
Randolph, you’re an idiot! But I’m sure the Yankees love you. Go back!
Steve: Go fuck yourself.
Country Time was brutal, just brutal in the 9th.
This is as bad as the Mets have looked since the first five games of Randolph’s tenure. Having said that, the Padres made the Phillies look this bad before we strode into town. Clearly, they played like the season was on the line.
And you can’t blame this one on Willie. The notion of bringing Heilman in to face Rollins or Utley was ludicrous. It was Wags or bust. He had five days to get right. Wagner’s slow melt-down was only the most dramatic instance but the bullpen was atrocious this entire series, the starters weren’t much better, and the bats were tired until the last game. The Phils opened a can o’ whoop-ass, simple as that.
Nobody’s going to save this team. It’s going to have to get right by itself. At some point if we don’t start beating the Braves and Phillies we don’t deserve to go to the playoffs.
BAD pitching! Billy chokes again. I feel like Benitez has been resurected!!! Delgado, LoDuca, Green all have been weak! This team must find a spark or they may be looking at a wild card playoff birth. Don’t think HoJo is the answer as batting instructer!!
Spider: Feliciano pitched two innings earlier the game. Did a good job too.
Thought for sure that Heilman would come in sometime in the 9th.
Well, now let’s see what or if we have anything for the Braves who must be salivating and waiting for us with a bus at the airport in Atlanta.
Wow Benny, helluva comeback. Thanks for making yourself look more foolish.
Jeff: I think this was the best time if any to see if Wagner had the stuff to pitch the 8th and 9th. Heilman against Utley/Howard/Burrell was not a great matchup. Somehow I don’t think you’re going to see Willie do that ever again.
John Maine Friday, GOOD GOD! He looks like he has forgotten how to pitch. I HATE THE BRAVES!
JW: Delgado has been just a stupid stupid hitter for the most part this season. I know he drove in a run but that AB killed the rally. For goodness sake, Beltran walks on 4 straight pitches and what does Delgado do? Swings at the first pitch which is , you guessed it? Out of the strike zone. A huge hit there would have put the game out of reach.
Anybody out there still BELIEVE the METS 2007 can make it HAPPEN???
JW: The motto of the Mets should be: “Remember the 2006 Cardinals!!!” I still believe. :-)
Delgado’s age has caught up to him. Think his better days are done. I am VERY disappointed in the METS.
steve: good call. I am venting!!!
Wagner sucking is Wagner’s fault.
Willie thinking Wagner could pitch 2 innings when he hasn’t done it unscathed in litteraly years is Willie’s fault.
Hmmm, wasn’t it just a few weeks ago fans were whining about Willie not bringing Wagner into the 8th inning for 5 outs?? Stupid Willie!! He listened to the fans and now look where the Mets are!
I don’t think Wagner is capable of going more than 1 inning anymore. About 25-30 pitches tops for him. His arm has nothing left after that.
As for the stolen bases in the ninth, blame it on both Wagner and Lo Duca. Paulie has a weak arm and can’t control the running game anymore. As I said yesterday, he also seems to have lost a lot of his intensity. He’s probably pissed about not getting a contract extension and he seems to carry that chip on his shoulder into the game. It hurts the team.
Phillies will probably win the EAST!
No heart on this team. I dont care what the Mets announcers said the other night Adam Eaton drilled Beltran on purpose because he sateeped out right before Eaton was going to make the pitch prior to that one. Beam Burrell the next day. And If I have to see Delgado joking and laughing with the other team everytime some is on first. He should be thinking about how he can hit one inside pitch this year.Very Disappointing season after last year. Not looking forward to Sept because it’s not looking good…
The Phillies have weaknesses too as do the Braves. This division is still the Mets to win. Who knows? Maybe the Mets will rattle of 10 straight wins. It’s baseball. You can’t predict it.
Anytime you want to make things personal, Steve, let me know.
I am in Heaven!!!! This is what our game is all about. Sometime this long cold winter, when the snow is falling, and it is so cold out you need 5 layes of clothes just to get to your car and hopefully it does start…..remember today….Remember the passion we all feel for our team…....who knows how it will turn out…...Will we be world Champions??? Will we be complaining how we did not make the playoff’s? Will we be complianing about an umpires bad call in game 7 of the NLCS?
I for one love this time of year….today, my blood was pumping…..yes, we lost …we had an awful week, but we do and i repeat we do have a game tomorrow…...that my fellow Met fans is the beauty of baseball, at 7:00 tomorrow nite, we will all turn on SNY and the boys at WFAN, and hear and watch a ballgame…....I can’t wait….I will be there to root fot my Mets….......for the saddest day for me is when there is no game tomorrow…....and at least for now, we do have that…....
Keep the faith , and as a guy I once knew used too say….
” YA GOTTA BELIEVE” !!!!
Thanks Tugger, still sounds good today as it did way back in 1973….
