“Pedro Martinez”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=4875 will join the Mets Friday in Atlanta to throw a bullpen session.
General manager Omar Minaya said this is being done so manager Willie Randolph and pitching coach Rick Peterson can get another look at him.
Minaya said he couldn’t “see any set of circumstances,’’ that would allow Martinez to pitch Saturday against the Braves.
“We want to be able to see him and find out where he’s at,’’ Minaya said.
The Mets are looking at internal options for Saturday, with Mike Pelfrey having an inside track over Phil Humber.

What’s the sense of Pedro’s potential velocity? I’ve seen reports of him throwing in the high 80s and one report saying he was hitting 90. Pedro has said that he hasn’t really let it rip yet. Do Pedro and the Mets brass think there’s another gear there that he can drive with? Or are they expecting him to have the less-than blazing fastball of last season? Or is no one sure what to expect?
.
Having Pedro in the dugout should lite a spark. But something sounds fishy about the whole thing. You know they give you lots of mis-information Delcos, don’t they? You don’t really buy all that gut stuff either do you?
Hi Doug Sisk;
My Dad would curse a lot when you were pitching. I think kinda like these boys do today when Mota’s in the game.
Think its a reliever thing?

If they had Paxil back then, I would have had a stellar career. I used to crumble like melba toast.
.
Doug would have a spot in the 2007 pen. I think The Jacket should find a hypnotist to save Heilmann from the demons of the 2006 playoffs that he carries within himself.
I hope the boys that count are as relaxed as you boys are now. That would help a lot.
Wow! A Pedro post turns into a Doug Sisk club meeting. As my namesake Mel Allen used to say “How about that”!!
(Jess… He was a Yankee announcer a long time ago).
JD: Interesting you put Collazo up as one of the Saturday choices. He pitched 5.2 innings of relief last night. Unfortunately, those innings , shut out innings all, were for the Zephs and not for the Mets! Did you get an Omar wink on that name?
