No word yet on the roster move to free up a roster spot for Endy Chavez. Brian Lawrence’s nameplate is over his locker, so he is here for now.
Perez, Mota, Sosa, Reyes, Gotay, Chavez and Heilman are the only players in the clubhouse. Heilman is playing with his cell phone and the others are just talking.
Real quiet.
Lawrence could be sent out and be brought back before the 10-day limit if the minor league team’s season he is assigned to is over.
Willie Randolph said Lawrence is still on for Saturday at Atlanta, but with the Mets nothing is etched in stone.

JD: Do Minaya and Randolph consult on these decisions or are they just the GMs to make?
John any word if they will bring up Humber or Collazo from NO
both have been pitching really well in the 2nd half.
From Marty Noble on 8/27 at mets.com:
*“The Mets will add some players when rosters expand on Saturday, but no decisions have been made on who will join the club.
“I’ve talked to my staff a little bit about it,” general manager Omar Minaya said. “I haven’t talked to Willie about it. Sometime this week, I’ll talk to Willie.”*
So rosters expand in less than a week and Omar has yet to talk to Willie about it, though he’s had internal discussions with his staff. I’m sure sometime this week Omar will consult with Willie. But the decision is his alone.
I saw an interview done with Willie before the trade deadline this year. He was asked what help his club could use. He said he leaves that up to Omar and the front office.
