There was a lot of talk in the clubhouse about wanting to put the Phillies away this week, then do the same to the Braves this weekend.
Personally, I think it’s important to put the hammer down.
There’s a lot to talk about. When we’ll see Pedro. … Endy is back tomorrow. … Lo Duca is back tonight. And, of course, the riveting Lawrence-Durbin duel.
Talk with you throughout the game.

JD: Maybe I should put a movie into my DVD player and just hope that we’ll come back tomorrow.
WILLY GOT A FREE PASS LAST YEAR, THIS YEAR NO, WHAT A FUCKING MORON…SORRY ABOUT THE LANGUAGE, BUT HOW THE FUCK DOES HE LET LAWRENCE BAT IN THE 4TH? AND WHERE THE FUCK IS MILLEDGE???? wILLY, THIS IS THE TEAM U HAVE TO BEAT!!!! THE METROPOILTANS WILL NOT WIN WITH THIS MAN AS MANAGER, I FEEL LIKE I AM WATCHING DAVEY JOHNSON REINCARNATED…..ASSHOLE….THEY WIN DESPITE OF THIS MORON..
Hi John –
Yes, Detroit is taking care of the Yankees 10-0.
However, what has happened to the Mets? I saw last night’s game and they looked as though they hadn’t ever played together, and John Maine looked as though he would much rather be somewhere – anywhere- else than Shea Stadium.
So, I guess I have two questions for you.
What do you think the Mets have to do to get back on track with each other, and will Pedro ever pitch for the Mets this season?
I really do hope that Paul is brought back next year. I couldn’t understand them letting him go.
Sorry about the last note, all u kids, my bad…..but i am a long time met fan, and Willy is driving me nuts…..he blew it last year in game 7, we ALL gave him a pass. sorry willy not this year….............how do u let a MINOR league pitcher, hit for himself in the 4th with the tying runs on???????
Ed, Willie takes advice, but it’s eventually his call. And, to Jeff, might I suggest Animal House? Do you remember the scene in the movie when the Delts are going over their pledges and when Flounder’s picture comes up they scream and throw beer cans at the screen?
They just showed it between innings, and under Flounder’s picture they had ``Mets Fan.’’
Might as well laugh, there’s not much here tonight.-JD
How is it that I live in a world where news scrutiny is so intense that I know not only the private lives of famous people, I actually know about the lives of the privates of famous people, finding out Pedro’s velocity in rehab starts is harder than cracking the Alger Hiss case?
Billy: Tell us how your really feel. Relax. Don’t blow a gasket.
JD: What about Aaron Rowand in LF for the Mets next year…he’s a free agent after the season.
Nice job Billy on that second post.-JD
I am sooo frustrated, last time i felt like this was 1988…...when Doc gave up the homerun to mike scioca…god this sucks…...willy , i saw marlon anderson begging u to let him hit….........
WILLY MUST GO…...
Milledge just cannot hit breaking pitches.
all you have to do is throw breaking balls and milledge is out he cant hit it and swings at everything
Milledge won’t see a fastball the rest of the year. The book on him is can’t hit the offspeed and break ball. They made him look like a ROOKIE.
breaking….damn what’s wrong with my typing????
The thing thats fustrating to me is there have been so many games they could have won, that they lost. They have to be close to a record for the number of runners left on base.
JD: Good suggestion…don’t have that one at home.
Nothing came in the mail from Netflix today…alas I must finish the game and support my team even when they’re as frustrating as they are tonight.
Lastings is young, he will learn and have ups and downs. But I can’t remember the last time he had a big hit as a PH. That’s really not his forte.
To Justin, I was totally joking about Delgado for Mussina, although to be honest if they traded positions I don’t think you would see a big difference in results.
Who do you want in right full time ….. Chavez, Milledge, Conine, Green or Anderson
Acted three act play by the mets on a bad game day this year….
Offense pulls a no show on a mediocre starter
Pen can’t stop the bleeding
Defense falls asleep and makes stupid mistakes
You know what? If I were the manager of the Mets, I would walk out and pull REYES and sit his lazy lackadaisical self on the bench.
Goodnight, folks
WOW….the manager sets the pace for the team. Randolph is just not doing it and hasn’t been all year. NO URGENCY…NO FIRE….I can’t believe they’re playing like they’ve already clinched and it’s just time to coast. NEVER!!!!!!!!!
If we make the playoffs, we’ll be gone in the first round. If this is how we’re playing, no World Series here.
JD: I’m reading a good book by John Lescroart…think I’ll pick it up and resume. Nothing doing on this game.
See you all tomorrow.
It’s one thing to lose to your division rivals who are in second place, its another to get man handled…
Make Show pitch the rest of the game
JD: Carlos Gomez played tonight in St.Lucie 0-3 with a K, 2 flyouts though which is good news considering hamate bone surgery limits power for a bit.
Goodnight Jeff and Ben.-JD
Now my wife is mad at me, SORRY EVERYONE!!!!
But let;s face it, Willy has no sense of urgency…...
And let’s face facts, Mannny Acta, who I belive is a manager of the year candidate, was a biiger loss then we as Mets fans expected…...(Mr. Alomar…..are u kidding me with that sign last night???)......
I do agree, Reyes should be benched here, what the hell was that play last inning…..i love the guy, but every now and then he pulls a kevin mcreynolds….nite i’m done….glad the yanks lost!!!!
On the bright side, I hear Alan Dershowitz is going to represent Mr. Met at his defiant trespassing trial that happened during the Mascot Free-For-All on top of the dugout.
I’ve got a book, too – goodnight everyone.
Are the Mets a bully team beating up on lesser teams but wilting under the pressure of a real competitor… they have a losing record to the Braves, Pads, Tigers, Dodgers and Rockies; 500% against the Yanks and Phillies. against Arizona earlier in the year they have a record of 4-3 just winning the series but Arizona is a different team now. The only two playoff teams they really have good records against are the Brewers and Cubs
Has a Met on this team brushed a hitter back
Hey JD
I’ve said this all year when Sele gets reps he had the best curve on the team classic 12-6 drop….
He never got a fare shake on this team, should have had way more innings over Mota and Show…
Pedro did it last year.-JD
There’s only so much a “sense of urgency” would do when you have Brian Lawrence on the mound. And taking him out after 4 would only help to blow up the already depleted bullpen. Their next off day is September 6, and with Joe Smith, Ambiorix Burgos injured and Mike Pelfrey tired, I’m not even sure how much help is coming for the bullpen.
In a game like this, with their worst starter on the mound, the offense needed to step up. Instead they did the opposite.
That… seven game lead became a five game lead pretty damned quickly, huh?
PEDRO NOTES
“I felt good overall,’’ said Martinez, who threw 52 of 88 pitches for strikes. “I feel like I used all my pitches and I was getting more confident as the game went on. The first two innings I felt a little out of whack.’’
Mixing his cutter, sinker and changeup with a fastball in the 84-88 mph range, Martinez was able to work out of jams in the first and sixth innings, getting two of his four strikeouts in the process.
“I’m not trying to overdo anything,’’ he said. “Whenever velocity is needed, I’ll click it. After the last game, we decided we were going to work on the cutter and the changeup. At this stage, when you are coming off an injury, you can’t really work on all of your pitches at once. You just want to take one at a time.’’
Prior to Monday night’s game in Philadelphia, Mets manager Willie Randolph indicated Martinez would likely make at least one more rehab start.
“I’m not going to answer that. I’m going to let the medical staff and Omar make that decision,’’ Martinez said, referring to general manager Omar Minaya. “My arm feels great.’’
After Martinez coaxed a popout for the first out of the inning, St. Lucie manager Frank Cacciatore visited the mound to see if Martinez wanted to walk the No. 8 hitter to set up a double play. Martinez smiled and politely refused.
He struck out the next hitter, then induced an inning-ending flyout.
“He wanted me to walk the guy,’’ Martinez explained. “I said no, this is what I want. I want to see if I can get out of this. I couldn’t do that in the big leagues, Willie would just hold out four fingers from the dugout. No discussion necessary.’’
Martinez said if he makes another minor league start, he prefers it to be in Florida. He said the results he got Monday night would have been the same against a Double or Triple-A team.
“Those number’s don’t go on your baseball card,’’ Martinez said.
Yeah, but 10 days ago, it was only 3.
Who knows what to expect anymore with this team. They could get blown out 3 more times and leave here up 2.
Or they could blow out the Phils the next 3, and leave up 8.
Forget about guessing what will happen against Atlanta!
I think I might go on a media boycott until next Monday. My heart might not be able to take it this week.
I will give them one more game. If they win tomorrow, they should be fine. If Glavine gets smoked and the O gets shut down by Eaton, then I will get real concerned.
According to an ESPN.com reporter, when Pedro did an interview in Spanish for ESPN Deportes, he said, “Me Voy Hoy,” meaning “I go now.” So he thinks he’s ready, despite what he says in English.
Phillies lead season series 5-3… I hate to say it but that makes the mets look like a joke after throwing a fit about the rollins comments.
Oops forgot about the April series… 6-5
Pretty nasty bunch you have here Mr Delcos. You read like Philly fans…..Your site shows thousands of bad behaviors blocked. Looking at the stuff above it must be pretty hard to get blocked.
OK, stop fooling around everybody! No more jokes. Let’s smoke this pack of Phillies and get the hell outta there.
The suicide hotline needs to be on full alert!!! Willie as bad as Davy Johnson? I’ll take that anytime!!! Last time I checked Davy had two rings as a manager.
Yes, Delgado isn’t hitting. Yes, the bullpen isn’t the greatest – but does anyone here think the Phillies or Atlanta are better?
Randolph has the Mets in 1st place for the better part of 2 seasons. They have the best record in the NL and not to far off of the lead in MLB.
There are legitimate concerns expressed on these pags but take a step back from the ledge. Enjoy your summer—The Mets are doing well.
Would you prefer Art Howe and Armando back?
Art Howe was the best manager we ever had.
No one can say any different.
Do all mets fans have Bi-Polar disorder?
Have I ever mentioned how bad this bullpen is? :-)
