Hi Metsfan, Welcome to the support Willie club. We're a minority here. A litany of why he sucks will probably start the moment Mota or Schoeneweis get up in the pen tonite.

MetsFan...well just so that we're clear: playing and coaching doesn't mean you'll make a good manager and not playing in the majors doesn't mean you WON'T...no real rule to this.
Sometimes I think Randolph makes a better coach than manager.

Sorry - obviously .359 is Milledge's OBP against lefties, not his OPS.

I understand that Willie bashing is the favorite sport of Met fans, but it's hard to question the lineup tonight:

Milledge against LHP: .324 BA, .359 OPS, .900 OPS (in other words, Luis Castillo's OBP + David Wright's power)

Gotay against RHP: .240 without a single extra base hit. Plus, he strikes out a staggering 40 percent of the time.

agreed letsgometsgo, everyone bashes on Willie for some in game move, when he puts a pitcher in or whatever, and it doesn't work out, but what is the man supposed to do? You put in the players you have, you can't hide everyone, and those little intricacies will not be the reason a season is won or lost, or the postseason is made. What will matter is how the players you have perform, and part of that is gearing them up, focusing them, and giving them a game plan. The guys play for Willie and thats whats important. Not everyone on the team can get the job done everytime willie calls on them. You also have to think maybe, just maybe, Willie knows his players a little better then we (or John Delcos) does. Just maybe...but hey, playing all those years and coaching all those years I guess just means anyone with half a baseball brain can criticize you any time.

Willie is so good with his players. He rests Delgado after he gets a big hit so he can really relax. He sits Alou on Saturday even tho we're facing a lefty to have him fresher for next week. He puts Milledge in # 2 to try to get him more fastballs. I'm sorry most don't appreciate him, but he knows how to handle players very very well.

Ah, but Gotay's weakness at the plate is lefties, so there's a logic to it.

Tonight on ESPN, we have the pleasure of listening to Joe Miller do play by play and the agony of Joe Morgan who makes so many mistakes---apparently he doesn't really do his homework the way SNY's Hernandez and Darling do. Quite a bit of difference between Hernandez and Darling's color commentary and Morgans.
Boy do I long for the days when NBC (The network that carried baseball)had Garagiola and Kubek-that was a winning combination.

I agree Jeff. After the Mets acquired Castillo, I read that you need to see him for an extended period to appreciate his skills, and that was correct. I enjoy watching him and look forward to his return in Philly.

Gotay should be in the 2 hole. He is a much more patient hitter than Milledge.
Willie drives me nuts sometimes.

Just an observation. But in the several weeks that Luis Castillo has been playing second base and batting second, it's easy to see how much he's contributed especially when he doesn't play and Randolph really doesn't have anyone who can bat second and DO what Castillo does.
I'm not criticizing anyone who happens to be batting second. More a compliment to how integral Castillo has become to this Met's team.
I would like Minaya to re-sign Loduca, Castillo and Castro for next year. Though, I feel that Castro wants to try and be a number one catcher on another team.
