Welcome back to Mets Chat Room.
It’s a Saturday afternoon, so I especially appreciate you checking in when there’s so much other to do. Enjoy the game and as always speak your piece here.
i was at the game today, what a day. i had the seats of a lifetime, sitting 1st row behind the mets dugout (pink shirt and an afro if anyone caught me on the telly?).
when everyone was booing delgado in his first 2 at bats, i kept standing and cheering him and telling people around me that were booing him that all he needed was ‘some positive reinforcement. (i was a bit drunk). it was so great to see the crowd get up for him when he was disrespected with the conine IBB. and he delivered and the crowd went crazy, what a moment for carlos. its funny, ive been to round 6 games this year and delgado was great in like 4 of them. i was at that walk-off seeing eye single against the cubbies against dempster as well and have seen him hit a few homers. i should go more often i guess.
duque was awesome.
and shawn green is a class act. not sure if they showed it on tv, but a little girl got hit in the head by a luis gonzalez fould ball and green tried to get her attention for a full minute before throwing her a signed ball. you can say whatever you want about his belly flops but he is a true pro and a good dude.
I’d take Wickman over Mota, sure.
Green… I think he has a place on the team as a roleplayer off the bench, I just don’t think he’s the starting right-fielder anymore.
Our playoff team is almost solid. I just believe our bullpen needs that extra push. If there are any other relievers out there I would like to think that Omar is thinking about putting Mota as a DFA. Hopefully Schoenweis will be better next year. I would not like to see Willie handing him the ball in then 7th inning of a playoff game.
I thought it was very classy for the fans today to cheer on delgado before that AB… showed the real fans out there. i enjoyed that
I preface this by saying I need to check on the answer, but here’s my first impression on Wickman.
1) When a player is designated for assignment, the team has 10 days to do something.
2) A team has to submit its playoff eligible roster on Sept. 1.
3) Add 10 days to the date when Wickman was DFA and it takes you past Sept. 1.
4) That means the Mets could sign him if he’s available, but he won’t be eligible for their postseason roster.
5) If this is so, then it was a smart move by the Braves to time the DFA when they did.
Again, I need to confirm this, but that’s my understanding so far.-JD
Its good to see El Duque do good again. What a steal he was last yr. It’s also good to see Ollie getting back on track with both pitching 7. That will help the pen.
Speaking of which Heilman got his first save in a few years.
I was watching some post game show and one comment was other teams are trying to get to the post season while the Mets are setting themselves up for the post season.
I still hope Omar can get something for the post-season.
As for Endy. I do not care. He will come up, no need to rush. We are in first. We are playing well. He can wait. He will be on the post season roster with Pedro.
JD – Very interesting.
I was just looking up El Duque’s record. Besides the amazing team winning percentage in games he played in, he has only had 4 games all year where he gave up more than 4 runs.
His contract for next year is 6.5mm what a steal.
To Kevin Mitchell: You are right about Green. He is a pro and has his priorities straight. He’s somebody I make a point of talking to, even if he’s not directly involved in the play or game outcome.-JD
Seven games in front of the field.
Having a little cushion going into next week is nice idea.
John Kevin Main….
I was just wondering why is it that everytime John Main is pitching or does something great. He does not show much emotion?I was just wondering if he is just plain out shy or just not much of a people person?Don’t get me wrong i think he is a wonderful pitcher and very talented. He also reminds me alot and looks alot like my husband. And by the way my husband was a pitcher as well and from what i heard a very good one.Anyways does anyone know how to contact Mr. Main i mean if i wanted to write him a letter from a true fan. There is so much more i would love to learn about this great Pitcher.Thank you for any information i can get…
A Mets/John Main Fan
Geovana C. LaMountain.
It’s funny that you’re such a big fan that you don’t know how to spell his name correctly.
7-up is always good prior to smoking a pack of Phillies.
As far as “playoff rosters” are concerned, if I recall correctly, a player must be in the organization on August 31 at 11:59 in order to be eligible.
I was told Pelfrey missed his last start for the Zephyrs. Does anybody have any idea whether he is injured? Or is he possibly being lined up to take Lawrence’s place after he pitches Monday so they can DFA Lawrence, bring up Endy and have Pelfrey take his place?
John I would love your take on the situation in Philly (with Brett Myers). Are the Phillies imploding? Is Myers nuts? Or are occurances like this more common then the general public has knowledge of?
Well fighting with a reporter who probably was being ridiculous is a vast improvement over last year isn’t it?
