If the Mets should lose tonight to LA it will just be the continuation of a season long trend of retreating. After winning six of seven, the Mets would have lost three straight.
Would that really surprise anyone?
Tonight is all about “Oliver Perez”:http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/Statistics/Team/playerstats?team=nym for me.
Perez hasn’t pitched six innings in his last three starts, and in his last four August games spanning 21 2/3 innings has given up 18 runs for a 7.06 ERA. That includes four homers and 10 walks.
Assuming Pedro Martinez comes back whole, the fourth starter in the playoff rotation will come between John Maine and Perez. Tonight is just another audition.
Personally, I’d go with Perez in the bullpen because his stuff gives him a better chance of coming in and getting a strikeout in a tough spot.
